Cable Problem Grado SR-60

Just recently purchased some Grado sr60's here on head-fi, and the cable is starting to short out on the right side. I have to bend or pull the cable a certain way for sound to transmit to the right side of my headphones .

Is there any way to fix this problem without recabling? If not, I have no experience with soldering, and even though I am certain I could learn quickly and figure it out, would it be worth it to buy a $15 solder kit on Amazon, then $10 on cabling supplies and recable it myself? Or is there someone on here that recables headphones for fairly cheap?

Thanks for the help!

More than likely the cable has gone bad at the y-joint. That means recabling is your best option. It isn't hard and you could figure it out in an afternoon.

If for some reason they are separating at the driver, that is an easy solder fix. I have seen some real quality control issues on Grado SR-60s in which they had stripped the wire 1/4" and only soldered 2mm to the driver and the bare wire corroded and began to separate.

Either way, recabling is going to fix it.

Ok cool thanks. So I have done a little research on soldering techniques on speaker wire and such and I think I have a pretty good idea what I need to do. However, when I open up the casing of my Grados, do I/ how do I detach the wires from the drivers?

Thanks again.

Just a quick touch with the soldering iron removes them.
