The Ultrasone Edition 8's - a preliminary impression - Page 3

I've auditioned the Ed8 along with a GS1000 and K701 on a Phonitor. And the Ed8s were a synergistic match with the Phonitor. It had the tightest Krell like bass of any headphone I've heard so far which includes Denons, Beyers, Senns and JVCs.

It is a very refined headphone too. IMO shouldn't be marketed as a portable headphone as it works very well with upscale anxillaries. It is a pity that it is so costly.

How did you like GS1000 vs Edition8 on Phonitor. Edition8 can be strong souding for classical, with rock, pop and country it's as good as it gets.

winzzz, I am using Phonitor amp and TC Electronics BMC-2 DAC with battery power supply as a source (fed by lossless music from Squeezebox Duet).

Like I said that Ed8s are a synegistic match with the Phonitor. The GS1000 were ok but not great like the Ed8s were with the Phonitor.

I was just listening to some Diana Krall on these Ed8's. I recall when I first listened to her greatest hits, I was using the D5000's and thought the album was engineered with too much bass. It was boomy and a tad overbearing. However, the Ed8's managed it very well indeed. I was listening with them further and admiring the bass depth, extension, detail, as well as the overall intimacy of the sound. I took them off and tried my D5000's. Hmmm.... I now have no need for the D5000's. The D5000's are great... don't get me wrong... but I simply prefer the Ed8's. Additionally, the Ed8's are delivering in a better way to my ears, the qualities that had me keeping these Denons.

I may well soon have two cans at home now, these Ed8's and my SR325is once I get them back with the Magnum upgrades. They should complement each other interestingly.

I'm eagerly waiting for your impressions as I've been a big fan of the Edition 8 since I heard them. For me they outperform Sennheiser HD800 in everything but comfort.

I do miss my ED8 with Phonitor at times. Love it's mid and imaging. Both German goes hand in hand.
