Digital Inputs

What digital input do you use and why?

rca coax
no particular reason. was using freebie toslink (supplied with dac) but broke it.
had coax in draw, not used for years. cant notice any difference though.

RCA coax when possible over optical. I don't have the choice of anything else on my DAC/pre-amp (actually do have AES/EBU but no source with that)

BNC preferably, followed by Firewire, but I have to use optical out from Mac (to a converter) as the only Firewire interfaces I'm interested in cost over $1000.

RCA coax because I have a cable for it

RCA coax b/c it is the only digital-out my DVD-Audio player has. It also has the ability to output a full 24/192 signal, should a DVD-A disc contain such content & not protect it.

I've used optical-outs on other transports with no detrimental effects. I'd do it again if need be.

Haven't tried the USB connections on my latest DAC.

USB from pc>headphoneamp/dac

USB from computer to DAC.

BNC

Using an 18 ft. Blue Jeans BNC coaxial cable.
Works better than any RCA coax of any length I've tried, including some very pricey boutique digital cables.

I believe it's a combination of BNC being true 75 ohm and the long length minimizing signal reflections.

I use Toslink connections, because the PS2 and PS3 use that interface.

Mostly TOSLINK (optical S/PDIF) since that is what the AirPort Express output.
Once in a while I use USB as well.

You have async USB and USB, but no async firwire.

By necessity RCA to BNC, source has RCA or Toslink only and toslink is least recommended by my DAC user manual.

DAC has:
Input 1: Glass fiber optical
Input 2: Glass fiber optical
Input 3: Coaxial with BNC connector
Input 4: Coaxial with BNC connector
Input 5: AES/EBU with XLR type connector
Input 6: Plastic optical TOSLINK

4 Coaxial cable using RCA connector
5 TOSLINK plastic-optical cable

USB, can't be bothered setting my drivers to work with optical or coaxil properly
