Wire Size (AWG) for DIY LOD

Ladies (and Gentlement):

Building an LOD for my iPod Touch 3G. Put aside soldering technique and dock connector size, is there a recommended wire size (AWG) for this application?

I like 24 or 22 awg wires myself. Gives the LOD a solid, firm feeling without losing much flexibility typically.
