HD650 is not dark/warm enough...need your advice.

Hi guys, I bought my HD650 only a few months ago, but I realised that they are posibbly not for me since the sound is not like I thought it would be.
it is a tad bright with the mids too much farward. it is the new version ofcourse. my earmax pro is helping a little to improve the situation but it is still not warm and bassy enough for me.
in fact, I love the general sound, but only if I can get a little more bass response and lower the treble/mids a little they would be great.

what should I do? :

1. getting a whole new OPEN headphone (I am interested in a open headphone) with a dark/warm signature. I would be happy to get some advices.

2.trading my HD650 to the old version...? (but only if the difference is more than subtle)

thanks.

get yourself a pair of early production AKG K240 Sextetts. Must be the early production. They are all about glorious, lucious, sweet heavenly mids and lots of bass for a warm sound that is all about the tone rather than the detail. Though they are very detailed, but the detail is not in your face.

If you want to trade for an older pair of HD-650's I might still a pair. I'll have to look.

Little Dot I+ is pretty affordable. Barely over 100 bucks. And you get that tube sound goodness. I can't use the I+ since HD-650 have a high impedance of 300 ohms. I need the more expensive LD II MK2.

yeah thats the thing. to power 'em properly, i'd have to spend upwards of 200 and I'd really like to get the Ef1 based on all the reviews, but they don't wanna ship overseas.

If you want a even warmer sound from HD650, have you considered EQ?

K240 Sextetts were discontinued.

I am using my marantz cd player as transport for cds..how can i use EQ? (it would probably be a good solution ) also, I don't want to degrade the sound quality by adding another part to the chain.

already did that...all the 3 tubes are mullard. my HD650 have a nasty plastic bright sound to them...don't know why, I don't think they should sound like that.

What he meant is the even older K240 that is no longer in production (search Head-fi for 'Sextett'; they crop up for sale here quite often). These are indeed warmer than the HD-650 and have quite different sound signature.
