It's a fault of the human auditory system, not headphones.
Then how do you explain that on some speakers/headphones, the G notes are clearly audible--in fact very prominent, and on others, you can barely hear it at all? It's all about the device's low bass extension. If it's got enough of it and low enough, then you can hear it.

dB scale is logarithmic.
Equal loudness contour.

Boosting the volume increases the distance between the tracks in terms of sound pressure level (meaning that less masking is occuring). I think, anyway. I'm not an expert on this

What does that have to do with different speakers and headphones ability to resolve the difference between the two notes? You're talking about loudness contour, which has nothing to do with this discussion.

works fine on my B&W CM9's . My pro 900's on loan or I'd test those too. But for the most part I doubt they'd have trouble with this track.
