First of all, huge thanks to Jaap ( paaj ), and his mama&papa, who were organising and hosting the whole thing. The location & house were great, to say the last, beautiful. Another huge thanks to everyone who took a time to help with food, coffee and tea etc, really nice of you.
Another mega thanks to Henk (tohenk2 ) who gave me a ride and make it possible for me to come, but not only, to have the opportunity to try his amazing headphone collection as well.
One little min point, Henk and I must leave to early, so, I having some hard time to give the fully & detailed impressions about the gear I tried, sorry about that. There were also not that many matched amps to try them with, next time we need that guys as more sources to, so, less laptops more CD players and amps.

Here we go.

The eye opener

He Audio/Jade electrostats + GES Woo amp ( aRRR set up ): Never been a truly fan of electrostats, but with this combo I got the feeling that there is something that still take my attention, which this combo was. I am quite impressed with the space / airiness of these stats, compare to HE60 they reproduce huge space, which was bit like to K1000, not as natural, but still. Bass was good, but I was missing tightness, it was bit loosy, however buy changing of IC, and I am sure if Woo gets some NOS 12AX7 pre tubes, this issue will not be there anymore. Even with their huge reproduced space found them quite balanced sounding through the whole sound spectrum. They are quite picky to the record and possible to the rest of the gear they are connected to. Comfort wise, well, not bad. They are light weight, but I think if you have small head, you may be having little "problem" to keep them tight while moving, however can be wrong. These babies cost like USD 1500 and made in China, I believe, so, here are some issues. For that money I expect better quality material, but also the finish, which wasn't top notch, however they do come with luxury box. Leaving this aside, like their sound better than HE60.

Big boys

L3000 & R10 (tohenk2): This meet offered amazing quantity of headphones, but matched amps just weren't there, so, don't take this impression to serious.
R10 are quite light and pretty comfy, found them having better comfort than CD3k I had in the past. Finish is good, but not amazingly impressiver than W5000 for example, so, lets leave it there. Sound wise I wasn't impressed, flat and lifeless, that's all I can say. I tried them on two amps, first was Akai AM69 Power Amp
and second was KEES's small USD 600 Goldpoint amp, which did significally better job with both of them, however not good enough to say more, sorry. L3000 are the same story, not that I found them flat, just not enough energy came out to say more. Like I wrote, to many headphones and not that many matched amps, pity. I will not say anything more until I get the chance to hear them with the right set up, other than that I wasn't blown away, if you can say so, especially when we are talking about money these costs, no way I going invest that much.

And more...

Stax 404 ( paaj ): I listened to it very briefly and they leaved quite nice impressions, not that I am going to buy them or any stats, however for the money they sounded better than HE60, but than again, we had one great GES Woo amp, which did better job using with Jade than HE60. Unfortunately I didn't try 404 through it, expect to sound even better.

DT48E - To heavy and industrial looking/finish, they looks same as they sound, nothing special.

Ultrasone Pro900 ( modded by KEES ) - Another interesting headphone. I found them to dark for my taste, but some strong points, like bass, without blowing the rest and still quite balanced made them very interesting, not enough for me, but certainly with great potentials, pity I missed ED9, next time maybe.

W5000 - I like these and probably would buy if I need some closed back, just find a matched amp for them and enjoy. Most what I like about them is there ability to sound not as closed back, but having enough space/soundstage to create nice open feeling. The rest of the spectrum are very good, at least to my liking, never had a single issue with comfort either, great headphones.

Grado HF2 ( paaj ) - Using with Graham solo was pretty nice, but with KEES's amp not, to shrill, especially when you compare them to PS1, which to me are the best Grado ever made, well after my beloved GS1k and Yoshino HP4, was glad to hear them again, thanks to KEES by bringing them again. Also tried SR325i through LD MKIII amp+LD CDP 1 player set up ( Stitch ), great combo, very good headphones and LD set up to, was quite impressed how good LD sounded, great budget amp, especially when you invest in some NOS tubes. There was Cambridge magic DAC as well, in that set up, all by all, very good combination.

HD800 - Not quite understand them. I tried them with budget NAD set up ( cd player+integrated amp ) and they leaved the same impressions as with other gear I tried. Still having some questions about their focus and not been involving enough, seems that they are trying to be great headphones, but having hard time. For example reproducing of piano, where you can clearly hear that last hit, which do sound right, but there is no weight or life behind, so, the whole representation feels like not finished, which may translates in artificial kind of sound, don't know guys. To me, they try to be the stats, while they are dynamic and that's where I cant put them in the same league with K1000 at all, they just don't hold it. On the other hand I do understand why they are loved by many, cos Sennheiser have produced something that maybe with next model will hit the top rank. Their finish, look and comfort are good, way better than HD650, but for now no HD800 for me.

Sorry guys/girls if I didn't mention everyone buy name, cos like I wrote, was to short for me to have that last fun to know you better, with beer and chips, which I regret by not be there. On the positive side, meeting all of you, where some I know for years ( Kees and Indra ) and others just for the first time, with no differences, all, for sure, leaved enough good impressions and take their own place in my memories. My apologies to Henk that he was missing his family event, cos of that stupid traffic problem, hoping you were fine after all. My greetings to Anouk, keep it that way, was very nice to meet you in person to. All by all I enjoy this meet very much, thank you all and hopefully see you next time again.

Here some pics

First of all a huge thanks to Paaj and his family for providing the accommodation, taking great care of us and making us feel very welcome!

Now to the impressions:
Most of my listening was done with the amp of the Audio-gd Compass fed by the Audio-gd Reference One, unless otherwise indicated. (In its defence: The amp of the Compass, while certainly not the epitome of sophistication, has proved to me to be an excellent all-rounder working equally well with every headphone I've thrown at it.) Almost all my listening was with classical music, since that comprises about 95% of my 'serious' listening. Tracks included: Ravel-Rhapsodie Espagnole: Feria (Berliner Philharmoniker/Boulez/DG) Shostakovich-Symphony No.15: 1.Allegretto (London Philharmonic Orchestra/Haitink/Decca); Debussy-Preludes Premier Livre: La sérénade interrompue (Krystian Zimerman/DG); Vivaldi-Concerto for two mandolins C major (RV558): Allegro molto (Il Giardino Armonico/Teldec); Beethoven-String Quartet in F minor, Op.95: 1. Allegro con brio (Gewandhaus-Quartett/NCA).

Beyerdynamic DT48E-200 ohm (beautifully modded by Kees)
I had the chance to compare this directly with my own unmodded DT48 (both of them 200 ohm versions). The modded version is warmer, has more soundstage and, although not really significantly less detailed, does present the detail as more of an organic part of the whole. Another benefit: with those K24x velour pads the modded version is a lot more comfortable to wear too. So, three cheers for another great Kees-mod!

Audio-Technica W5000 & L3000
Some impressive heavyweights from Audio-Technica and....no, sorry, they just don't manage to cut it for me. While I appreciate their refinement, everything sounds way too rounded and plasticky. And in the highs particularly the impression of strong roll-off really ruins the representation of a realistic acoustic. Admittedly, the L3000 had by far the least to suffer from these ailments, but it still sounds like an Audio-Technica...

Sony R10
So glad there was the opportunity to try this almost mythic beast. And right away I could hear why this is such a highly-praised headphone: The whole presentation is so smooth and balanced, it just makes you want to soak in it like a warm bath. The only problem is, it's way too smooth, almost glossing over details that I want to jump out at me. So no, again, not for me. (Phew, saved a few quid up till now.)

Sennheiser HD800
Very high on my 'potential next purchase'-list, but I was slightly worried by that peak in the highs on the frequency graphs. (Something I'm very sensitive to, particularly in headphones that are otherwise fairly neutral.) To my relief, it manages to stay just safe of discomfort in that regard, but only just... (better, perhaps balanced, amplification will no doubt help here) For the rest, to me this is certainly a headphone that impresses right of the bat. The signature is beautifully neutral without being dry, and the way it manages to grip every instrument and present it as a totally distinct entity (very much like an electrostat, actually) certainly doesn't fail to amaze. Still, there was this nagging feeling: was I actually listening to music here...?

Grado GS1000
I was really surprised to hear how these do not sound like a Grado. No real aggressiveness, but rather a beautifully coloured (but not unrealistic) presentation that almost errs on the other side in being slightly laid-back. And it has an excellent soundstage too! These definitely go on the list for future consideration.

AKG K1000 (PrimaLuna Prologue Two/Unison Research Unico CD player, Blackmore's setup)
...And then everything falls into place, surely this is what music should sound like! The soundstage was to be expected, what I didn't expect was the fullness and body of the sound with a beautiful bass extension. Coupled with that gorgeous AKG signature sound: almost neutral but with a little bit of just the right colouration. While the HD800 gives you the individual instruments, the K1000 presents you with the orchestra, perhaps not quite as detailed as the HD800, but so much closer to real life. (And I refuse to believe that the difference in amplification that I used for these two headphones could have anything to do with it.)
Definitely the setup where it was the hardest for me to stop listening.

Ultrasone Pro900 (with Kees-mod)
First, trying these on my own gear with orchestral music it was hard to keep listening for more than a minute. Everything came across as completely synthetic, as if fed through a hyped-up midi sequencer. Later on, trying them (guided by Kees) with the Earmax Pro and music more appropriate to them (piano solo), their qualities became much more apparent. They really do manage to give you the whole timbral depth of the instrument (albeit with a strong emphasis on the metallic part) and also present the full frequency range very convincingly.

Ultrasone Edition 9
Based on my experience with the Pro900 above, I was expecting a very short listening session, but these didn't leave my head for quite a while. There's something eminently likeable about these that's very difficult to describe. Don't expect them to be really realistic in the way they present acoustic timbres, but the lack of realism completely failed to annoy me. Instead, I was enjoying the detail retrieval, nice soundstage and overall musicality and warmth. Very nice indeed!

Stax 404LE & Sennheiser HE60 (Stax SRM-T1/Northstar M192 Paaj's setup)
While I've heard plenty of electrostat speakers through the years, I've never had the chance to listen to stat headphones. This is certainly something I could like: it translates all those characters familiar to me from electrostat speakers to headphones really well. Gripping details and particularly transients in a very impressive way. Timpani hits almost make me jump out of my seat! The 404LE has a beautiful almost burnished warm timbre to it that's very pleasant indeed. The HE60 on the other hand is definitely brighter to me and rather reminds me of the HD800 in the way in presents you individual instruments to the detriment of the big picture. Exciting? Certainly. But in the long run...

Jade Electrostatic Headphone, Sennheiser HE60 & Stax 404LE (Woo GES/Audio-gd Reference One)
A fascinating experience having the opportunity to hear these headphones for some extended listening and repeated swapping. The Jade and the Sennheiser seem to represent different ends of the spectrum: While the Sennheiser is in-your-face, dynamic, with a smallish soundstage, the Jade is far more distant, much better in presenting the whole rather than the parts, with a beautiful soundstage and accurate timbre. However, the Jade does regularly feel too laid-back, not really giving you the amount of detail one would expect from an electrostat. In comes the 404LE again to give you the best of both worlds: detail, organic presentation and a beautiful signature.

Now, do I want an electrostatic setup? I don't know, there still something that has never quite agreed with me in the way electrostats sound. There's always something slightly synthetic in the way the instrumental colours are almost defined by their detail and the way that strings seem too often to be reduced to a sort of likeable hum rather than the full bloom and depth that they have in real life. But the 404LE definitely made an impression.

Concluding, we had a great day. Amicable and friendly people in a relaxed environment with plenty of opportunity to do extended listening with different combinations and the chance to hear some real rarities. I wouldn't say it has made my future headphone choices much easier, but I certainly learned quite a lot.

The meeting was one hell of a succes. Thanks Paaj!
Lovely gear, every piece. Had a blast meeting and talking to the others in person.
Verry nice pics sergei. I'll dig up the two i made before my camera battery failed....

Blackmore's K1000, not sure if they were connected to the Prologue, one word:
WOW. That headphone is such a different experience than the rest.
Incredible headphone sergei! Too bad i dont have the space for it or there would have been 2 kidneys on the For sale forum

Stax SR404 LE & Stax SRM-T1;
Great sound. Realy loved it. Airy, fast, detailed and acurate. The stax amp wasn' t bad at all compared to the Woo.

HD800;
Senns never have been my cup of tea and this was no exception. Tried it on the Slee Audio and the Symphony but it sounded boring, detail and neutral but still boring. After Anouk tried it on my MKIII i couldnt resist to try it once more. Though it was definitely better, its still not my taste. Expected much more from it.

Grado PS1;
Great cans. Less harsh and better bass, without losing the edge on the mids compared to the SR325is. Want to trade it for a limb kees? Everything other than my ears.

LD MKIVse
Nice amp but not much different from my own MKIII. Bit more punch and soundstage.

The Jade and HE60 are also great headphones and the Woo GES is a great stats amp.`

Thanks for a great day folks!

Bas

Excellent!
The impressions are nice reading, and good work on those pictures as well. Sure looks like you all had a great meeting. Well done!

..and from a couple of other threads it seems like we have a Stax convert. he he
post #6 of 26
Ah, an impressions thread!

Thanks to everyone who made the meet a success! Thanks to Paaj (and your mother of course ). Oh, and I would like to say thanks to Drosera for making the most delicious brownies ever (the kind of brownies that if you take two you're stuffed ).

I totally loved the Goldpoint Headphone Pro amp from Kees. Looks can be deceiving as this cute little amp packed a great punch. It has strong bass and is highly detailed. I want one too!
Also listened to the Slee Solo. The bass is great but the Goldpoint was better imo. Take this with some salt btw as I listened to them in completely different set-ups.
A nice pair of phones were the Edition 9s. These of course belonged to Indra. I had tried the Proline 750 (bleh) but the Ed9s were quite good. I can see why some people say they sound a little plasticky but they had something special.

Something I also wanted to try is to see how the Jmoney Beyer pads perform on other DT880s (I own the 03 version). I completely dislike what they do to my 03's and thought they are equally bad sounding on the 05s. Yes, they do fix a little in the top and overall are slightly more balanced but there was also this cave-effect that I don't like at all. So, that settles it. No more leather pads (on Beyers) for me.

Then of course 'de grote jongens'... K1000, HD800, Jade, GS1000 SR404, HE60, R10 and then all the Audio-Technicas. The K1000 completely took the show. Lifelike was the first thing that hit me when I listened to them. The second phone that I loved was the Stax SR404. Such a nice presentation... Wow... Same goes for the Jade. There was something wrong with the HE60 and I did not like it that much. The same goes for the R10 and most of the Audio-Technicas. Not my cup of tea.
The GS1000 was good and so was the HD800. The HD800 was more neutral. I did not really listen long though.

I also found out how important a good source is. I came to the conclusion that the Dacmagic is a pretty harsh sounding source. But I also have to say that my ears were a little spoiled after hearing the Ref1 and Northstar DAC.

As Stitch has pretty much the same setup as I have I listened to his Little Dot MKIII. I have to say that it is very close to my MKIV SE. I did not really listen to details and did not A/B them as I am already familiar with the sound (and had other things to hear ) but whoever is debating of getting a MKIII or MKIV I would say save yourself some €s and go with the MKIII.

Perhaps more impressions later. Now is studying time.

My impressions:

I liked the location, the hosts, the attending people and the gear. That many trained ears - and all different opions! In short - I had a blast. (And it shows in the pictures).

I heard some amazing things - but since I had to leave early not enough, too short and hurried. I would have liked to hear the gear of stitch for instance. Next Time! Then I will bring a CDP as well...

The SR404 Limited - I'm going to buy one. I liked the other electrostats, but this one left me with the feeling I wanted them... Missed out on trying them on the Woo Ges.

So (I have to say it again), it was wonderful to have you all around. Nice to get to see some faces behind the names. And it was fun to see the equipment expand so rapidly, could hardly keep up with the table space
My sortofstepdad was really sad he missed it (and he should be, with this line-up) but had other appointments (didn't write the meeting down in the agenda...) but wants to be there next time so maybe next year you are all welcome again .
My mother was surprised by how quiet a headphone meeting is. She was sort of expecting to hear the music all around the house... I guess she didn't really think that through

So, on to the impressions. It was hard to really compare things, since sources and amps where so different. One moment the GES had an iPod connected, next it was hooked up to the Ref1... and yes it does make a difference... I think... as the music changed too...
But here are some impressions in some random order:

Meyer Symphony:
- not for me. Overly harsh, probably because of the built in DAC. Tried with the HD800 and W5000. Crossfeed did improve things but not enough.

HD800:
- Didn't do it for me on the Symphony, too harsh, but I really liked it with my Solo/M192. Much more life/weight to the music, great deep bass and punch and it is oh so comfortable. Based on this I think I'd like to have one sometime to get to know better

W5000:
- I don't think I got the right fit, but they sounded brighter than the HD800 to me. The AudioTechnica headband system is just not for me, it feels loose and I think it is at the same time essential to get a good sound... no thanks. Had this problem earlier with the W1000 and this time also with L3000 so I think I'm just not made for the full-size AT's.

L3000:
- Same fit problem as W5000. Reminded me a bit of the DX1000 I had some time ago, but even more bass and it sounded dull, like some highs where missing. I think I get what people like about them but (from memory) I prefer the DX1000 if I need to go closed. Don't remember what setup this L3000 was fed by.

Grado (PS1?)
- Great natural sound, focused soundstage but a bit too much bass. Only short listening.

Edition 9
- Great exciting sound, not really natural and too much bass: I think I've become much less bassheaded since the last meet, I loved it then. Still has great bass, but it's not what I'm looking for.

dacMagic - littleDot - MS1000(?)
- great entry setup, the grado/tube sound is a lovely combination and with the bigger pads it is very comfortable and much more spacey than the bowls. The Beyer DT880 (03?) that where laying next to it sounded a bit dull, I remember it sounding much better from my Solo but did not try that this time.

R10:
- Maybe need some more quiet private time, but sounded thin this time. Tried with the M192/Solo. Great to hear it once, but didn't sound special. Missing some bass.

Jade:
- Wonderful laidback sound. Depending on music this can be either bad or great but certainly a worthy alternative to the HE60/404LE. Sound much further from the head than my 404LE. Build quality much better than I expected from the first pictures. Really luxurious package.

GES:
- Looks and sounds great. Think it sounded a bit cleaner and more powerful but didn't fully compare it to my SRM-T1, because of the different sources and to save my wallet .
Same applies to the REF1. Would love to have some really dedicated time for these but (certainly with difference between DACs) it was too noisy to put too much weight on this listening session. Maybe some time later.

K1000:
- Was looking at it often but Blackmore/tohenk2 had to go so I missed this one
Next time...

All in all, I'm actually quite happy with my own setup, only that HD800...

And some general things:
I was surprised by the sizes of many devices! REF1 is HUGE (and heavy ), K1000 much smaller than expected, Symphony is very big. Fun to see how different pictures really are.

Electronics are heavy, certainly if you pack two backpacks and an eastpack and you don't go by car... or try to fit that REF1 in a backpack

Great impressions, pics and gear, looks like a very nice meet indeed.
Looks like a fun meet. I like intimate settings. Really want to hear those E9s. I like me some bass.
I'll just literally repost my post in the former thread (hope it'll take the pictures as well).
Edit: nope, I'll add them manually
------------------

I had an absolute fabulous meet! Thank you Jan-Jaap for hosting! It was really great and you have a very kind mom who took care of us in a splendid way!

Anouk, great meeting you and I hope you had a wonderful time but I think that worked out ;-)
Sergei en Kees, it was great seeing you again and Sergei, I am jealous. Absolutely jealous of your set-up. I wanna sell my kidney now ;-)

I didn't make that many photos; there was just too much to listen to. This was a meet full of awesome high-end goodies!

Sony R10
When I saw that headphone was going to be there I was most pleasantly wowed. It's one of the few I really wanted to hear as I thought that to be the only closed "rival" of my beloved ED9. Well, I have to say, it's also nice to kill some of my dreams, especially with a price tag like that. I didn't like them. they sounded thin, I missed punch, body, a lot. Maybe my expectations were too high...my wallet stopped screaming. That was nice only it didn't last very long...
Btw, I listened to them via my set-up as described in my sig (not the portable rig huhum). When I heard them via the set-up from Kees (I believe) it was already lots better but nothing persuasive either.

Audio-Technica ATH L3000
Hmm, not my kind of animal either. I didn't listen to them for a long period of time, they missed body to my ears so I was quickly done with listening. I liked them better than the R10s but had the same problems to me.

Sennheiser HD800
As most of you probably know I am no Sennheiser fan and never will be. This headphone has all I don't like about Sennheiser. The HD600, from memory, sounded much nicer and more interesting than these out my set-up. They were boring, had this warm sticky feeling in the midrange which sucked all the pleasure out of music listening for me. Again, maybe I expected too much from these but, as the rest from Senn, they get greatly hyped on here so I was kind of hoping for something totally different. Anyway, no biggie ;-)

Audio-Technica ATH W5000
Quite something different than my ed9's and I don't know why but I kept listening to them for quite a while. They were really fun and upfront. The lower part really seemed more opened up than my ed9, especially with metal guitars raving. More in to my face which I really liked. I would like to spend some more time with them just to be able to pinpoint exactly what I liked about them.

Now we get to the good stuff...

Stax SR404 LE & Stax SRM-T1
Wowie wowie! I really like them!! A lot more interesting than the HE60's with the latter sounding hollow and boring.
Stax, I love them for the acoustical work. Even french metal like Pleymo they handled with great souplesse, something I did not really expected to hear. I liked it a lot!
I would love to spend more time with these hps! In other words, spend more time comparing different kinds of Stax. I begin to feel that there's only one sort of hp that can "beat" or at least complete my ED9 and those are Electrostats. The following experience underlines this a great deal.

AKG K1000 & Union Research Unico CD Player &PrimaLuna Prologue Two
Oh...my...God!!!

I am soooo jealous, Sergei, of that set-up. Best I've heard in a long while. They blew me of my socks. That combo is smashing, thrilling, as if you're part of the experience. It sounds so natural, so involving, the placement and reproduction of sound is so..undescribable...beautiful. Timing, detail, everything.
Too bad I started with them too late and you had to leave. I would really like to hear them some more with my own music so I know what to listen for.

The first time I heard the K1000 I also liked them a lot but missed punch and impact. Not this time. They Rocked! So powerful, almost not electrostatisch. Brilliant.
They really start to appeal to me as a complementary hp set-up next to my ed9. I will buy them some day after I finished my current set-up (and I listened to them some more).

My own set-up
Yes, I still love my combo. Still have to gather the money to go for a Phonitor. I listened to my ed9 out of Kees stuff: Goldpoint Headphone Pro and a NAD CD player.
I will never go back to a CDP as it's too much of an inconvenience but that combo made a world of a difference to the sound of my hp. It's a good thing to know that I can make it sound much much better than it already does and that will be my next step for sure (next to all the other steps I have to take).
The crisp detailed sound was astonishing. Warm, creamy but tight as hell. Gorgeous!

It was a splendid day with too much goodies to listen to. Looking at the Little Dot MKIII to start and have fun with. It's cheap and my bf liked its sound so might be worth giving a shot, even just for kicks.
I will also sell my Proline 750, ha, which brings me to the one headphone I forgot mentioning....

Ultrasone Pro 900
Ha, sweet!!! The Proline 750 is out. OUT! I hated them in comparison. The 900 would be a great substitute as a portable hp, unfortunately I hardly ever, never really, listen to my portable set-up anymore. I started biking to work instead of walking and dragging all that for a 5 minute listen every day is no longer worth it to me.
So I probably won't be spending money on them either but they were much much more nicer than the 750's.
Hollow mids they didn't suffer from, no roll off at the bottom, they actually had a bottom, with balls, better detail, a little heavy on the bass side although they had already been modded to temper that. But nice!

And I decided to sell my ProLine 750. I will not use them. And if I would go portable again I'd be forced to buy the 900 instead of trying to cope with those 750's again. They suck. Haha. Pretty funny when compared to my first meet where I loved them to death, but coming from a Sony V700 I can not be blamed for that I guess ;P

Oh, and I listened to the Jade electrostats, they were really fun too. The background noise was too loud unfortunately to hear them properly but they had a nice dry sound. I did prefer the SR404 though after a short listen. More fun and involving.

Oh and the pics:

Thanx to all for making this a great day!!!

As a side note: Maybe the R10's need different amping to make them shine..? I am still kind of baffled I didn't like them, I expected a full sound but they sounded so thin...I just can't imagine this was the way they were supposed to sound but I don't have any experience with them.

Everybody brought good spirits (no not the drinks) to the party. That's what made it great fun for me! (As well as the gear, offcourse)
Could be. I must say that I do not recognize my own R10 in the comments and I didn't listen to my own HP's. BTW it is supposed to be the bass heavy version based on the serial. But still, that was part of the fun - sharing and letting others experience my HP's on their own setup. I will not sell them, just like I will keep the L3000 for as long as I can (forever) (...never say never...), so next time I will bring them with the amp and CDP I use myself. But they do sound quite different compared with the Ultrasones. I still like the Ed8, even as I don't think them realistic. No hurry there, they are still in production. My guess is - that no mather what, you will not like them.
But you could buy the DavidMahler R10, and try it balanced? You could always sell again if you really don't like them.
