Give Away: New Top IEM RE252 - Page 3

Whoops, double-post!
I have had several IEMs in $150 and $300 range - nothing fully balanced in sound spectrum ...

I'd be happy to share my listening impressions and buy the product if it speaks to me ...

I am no longer associated with Stereo Mojo but at some point I did an extensive shootout. I bought all the headphones, except Senn 650 (they were borrowed) before the review ... I still have the recabled 701s (actually 2 of them)

I would really like one.
I haven't written a review yet but would be willing & eager to write about my honest opinion of these.

Looks like a lot of interest in reviewing the RE252s!
I'm going to take the time to respond as I really enjoy auditioning various equipment and iem's are an area which interests me a lot.
I have ue 5 pro's for 4 years now and have pretty much settled on them for price/performance but definitely not build quality as I have been through two sets of cords and less than a month ago, the connector housing had cracked (due to lack of care on my part I'm sure) and now have been switching back and forth between my Shure 5's and etymotic 6i's but not as happy with either as I was my ue's.
I have a hifiMan EF2 at my desk here in front of me which I pestered Fang for a delivery date every week following my audition of it at CanJam 09 in LA. I wrote a review on it around 3 weeks following my receiving it and have been happily rolling tubes (current tubes are GE 5654W's) and swapping out what I can to see if there is noticeable change (not so much on my $70 investment in the Cyroparts USB cable, but more notably on my swapping the wall wart with my Project HeadBox's more powerful PSU).

I would love to audition the RE252's with the hifiMan here at my desk and also hooked up as I usually do with iem's to my Cowan D2+ for traveling/gym sounds.

I am only a Junior member here on Head-fi but my love and appreciation of quality sound goes back to my original invest in 1975 when I bought a B&O 2400 Receiver, and Design Acoustic DA-8 speakers from the General Manager at Chuck's Steak House where I worked as a kid for $1,200. I was making $3.50 an hour then and it took me almost a year to payoff that debt while working there.
I still have that B&O receiver and it has survived over 15 moves in the past 30+ years.
My current home equipment is a 5.1 Quad/Rotel setup with Quad 22L's for my 2 channel appreciation along with my Project RM6a/Sumiko Blue Oyster Special/Sumiko MM Phono Stage and Audioquest Diamond Back Inter Connects for vinyl.
So, I am brand new to Head-fi but like so many in here, I am not new to the love of sweet sounding music.
So PLEASE Fang, consider my hat tossed into the ring also in being considered for reviewing the RE252s.

I would be honored if you would consider me to write a review of the Head-direct RE252.

I don't claim to have golden ears or to be an audiophile but I do have some experience in writing reviews and moreover I am also currently using (and loving !) an RE1 for the last 6 months so I am aware of how good earphones should sound like !

Since I love my RE1s so much I would be more than happy to promote Head-direct here in India in my small capacity of reviewing your flagship earphones since I believe Head-direct can do very well here since other hi-end sound equipment is prohibitively expensive here.

Also I do have decent equipment to do some justice to the RE252's capabilities -

Portable source - Amp3 pro2 / Apple Ipod 6G Classic
Amplifier - Meier Corda Porta III

Desktop source - Hotaudio DAC / Govibe DAC
Amplifier - Taurus T100 amp

I also am a friend of Faheem above who is getting an RE0 in a few days. I can borrow his RE0 and do a 3 way comparison between the RE1/RE0/RE252.

Here are some of my reviews -

Crossroads Mylar LBi user review - TechEnclave

Crossroads Bijou 2 review - TechEnclave

Sennsheiser HD201 review - TechEnclave

Soundmagic PL-30 review - TechEnclave

And lastly regardless of whether I win or not, thank you for showing us your generosity for giving all of us a chance to win one of your flagship earphones

Yup.

Dear Head-Direct,
I could use an RE252 - writing a review on it would serve as a very good opportunity to put my grammar skills to use!

When writing an essay, I have obsessive-compulsive English grammar and need to be as precise as possible to fully and effectively convey my thoughts to the audience. I will attempt to describe what I hear in the greatest detail, yet briefly, possible.

I have very good ears, I don't know about them being "golden," but I will be able to accurately portray the earphones' sound signature to the audience once I have grown sufficiently familiar with it. I will admit that I have little to substantiate what I am claiming. I was an amateur musician in high school, I was one of the ones who could tune his own intrument(s) by ear alone easily, even in a noisy environment, to approximately a fraction of a cent sharp or flat, and I could tell easily when I was a cent or more out of tune anytime.

Nowadays I do not play music, but listening to my music collection, I hear all the subtle nuances that separate the good muscians from the bad and the ugly (pun intended). Fortunately, most of the music I have consists of very well made recordings performed by very talented and experienced musicians and under the direction of very competent conductors/leaders. Sometimes I laugh when I revisit an old recording and hear the silly mistakes people sometimes make or discover another nuance separating the professionals with more refined style from the rest. Audio gear is the same way in that all the small differences can make one feel as though one piece of equipment is worlds apart from the next.

I don't listen to very many genres of music, but I will put the RE252's to the test against every one that I do listen to. I enjoy classical/orchestral, chamber, and some rock and metal (though not too much as I find the ones I've listened to so far are terrible musicians, heh heh, but I forgive them due to, well, the genre).

Help this newbie gain some practice putting intricate sound to words.

P.S. I've got an iPod 6g classic paired with Minibox-E+ through a ZYcable "High-end" line-out dock and RE0's to compare to. I love the sound signature and overkill resolution of the little Zeros and would love to compare them to your newest earphones.

Sure I won't get to review them, but here's what I do, short and simple.

When reviewing audio equipment, I try different sources, but I also examine build quality. As you know with my EF2 PSU problem, I go far into finding out why it failed, and document.

Another thing I do with audio equipment in testing, is feed an oscillator into them and give it both a listen test, and a test on what it's actually performing, with a mic and oscilloscope (mic used is of high quality, shure brand).

I also take pictures of said product in studio, like I did for the EF2.

As for experience on reviewing, I have reviewed some items on CNET in the past as a customer review, but also was one person who found out some flaws in a certain Epson printer which actually prompted Epson to replace model with newer model fixing flaws I found..

Oh, and I take a long time to review, because I will constantly go back and forth on source, for movies AND music.

EDIT: Oh, and I should mention, I am highly critical. I put equipment to their max when reviewing. If I find a flaw, rest assured, it will be mentioned.. My number 1 concern for audio reviewing, is how well can it handle loud bass in music, without distorting other frequencies.

With that in mind, I'm still reviewing the EF2 I purchased some time ago, letting it break in, even as i type this, im testing it on loud Gorillaz D-Sides album, which has some heavy bass hits...

I'd definitely be interested in comparing the RE252 to the Future Sonics Atrio m5, which are the same list price, are fairly popular, and which I've been using for a good 2 years or so now.

To be honest with you I haven't done any reviews. However you didn't mention this as being a prerequisite for acquiring these interesting iems. I need them because I have used horrible IEM's in the past, I love dnb music which these may excel at, and I'm poor . Thank you for your consideration!

I've never owned a pair of IEMs, and I'm very intrigued with how they compare to a pair of full-size headphones. For the time being, I do not have the funds for me to purchase an IEM that will make me happy the same way that my HD650s do.

I will be able to test more objectively because of my lack of prior experience. My views will not be clouded with my concept of sound from another IEM, so my descriptions will be more precise and descriptive.

Please, may I have a pair?

Just wondering, Fang, when will the "winners/reviewers" be decided?

I'm giddy with anticipation.

I need a pair because my left IEM and I'm stuck with the right one. I cant get a job in this down economy to afford a new pair. I cant get the full experience of my iPod!!! Plus newbies need some cool equipment too.

To whom it may concern (Probably you Fang),
I have bought the re2 and yuin pk3 in the past and referred many people to your site to get them also, after I allowed them to try them. I live in a college town where I could spread a buzz about them and bring in sales. I graduated with a marketing degree and would be able to create a hype over them in a short period of time. Another factor that I believe is worth mentioning, is that my wife and I are expecting twins in March. I will be hearing a lot of screaming and crying in the coming months, and I belive that these are just what I need to get me through it. Thank you for taking me into consideration, and I can be contacted at rak1985@hotmail.com or through the message function on head-fi's forum.

I would love to sample the new RE252. I have owned/own W3, IE8, SE530, Monster Turbines, Phonak 122 and several other top IEMS. I could compare the sound signature of the RE252 to these other models.
