Use my nice cans for gaming? Amp advice please.

Hey guys,

I have exhausted the search, read countless posts, and I am beginning to wonder if I am even looking in the right direction so I wanted to everyone's advice.

Here is my situation. I have a pair of LA2000's that I would like to use for gaming on Xbox live.

Now I understand to take full advantage of them I will need a receiver with either Silent Cinema or Dolby Headphone, but I am sort of stuck in no man's land.

I have a Mac Book Pro with the Apogee Duet and ATL MKVII headphone amp. So that is my music rig for right now.

Now do I just say screw the LA2000's and leave them as part of my music rig and buy a system like the Astro A40 headphones with their mixamp? Or do I invest in a nice new receiver that has all the bells and whistles (including DH or SC) and run all my HDMI through the receiver? Or alternatively, buy a cheap old receiver with DH or SC and run all my HDMI's directly into the television.

I just keep changing my mind and I am looking for advice from guys who might have had similar debates.

Ok sorry for the long post guys, and thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read through the whole thing.

The astro gaming mix amp is great for gaming. The Dolby headphone feature takes gaming and movies to the next level. I use mine with my xbox using optical out, definitely worth the money ($120) for the DH. If your looking for other features then it might be worth it to you to get a new receiver. Also the mix amp is small and portable if that is important to you, it can also be run off of USB or battery.
I cant comment on their headphones, I use ultrasone Pro 900s.

390gt, can the Astro A40 handle a full sized 1/4" headphone jack that is obviously going to come on nicer "audiophile cans"?

Gbjerke, do you have any experience using the Lucas?

Thanks a lot guys.

No they can not handle a 1/4" plug.
I use an adapter to go down to 1/8". I also use a 1/8" 90 degree plug that that goes to a 1/8" jack (that I plug the adapter into) to reduce the stress on the amp jack.

Thanks 390.... Is the mixamp powerful enough to drive LA2000's or am I going to have to run another amp in-line somehow? Thanks so much.

Guys I need advice too! Either:

PS3>JVC SU-DH1>Senn555
or
PS3>Astro A40 Mixamp>Senn55

Please help!

Senn 555 and the La2000 are both easy enough to drive. Should work fine with the mix amp.

Me? I got a big ass receiver with a decent headphone jack and 5.1 analogue out for a separate head amp or another speaker amp. Works pretty damn good.

Are the JVC SU-DH1 outdated or too expensive for their tech? Like would I be better off getting some other amp/dacs for $100 or so? Or should I just get them anyway? Im getting Senn555s and will use optical via PS3. Decided to not get the A40 amp thing since its like $140 all said n don. Advice please.
