Clarification/Correction Requested : iTunes AAC VBR

I would like to request clarification on iTunes AAC VBR. Further, where incorrect please amend my comments.

When ripping CDs to a lossy format using iTunes, and where specifying AAC VBR as the format, the specified bit rate is the minimum, whereas the maximum bit rate fluctuates dictated by algorithm. Therefore in the encoding process, data sections (I.e. "quiet" passages) requiring minimal bit rate are converted at the minimum setting.

If the above holds true, AAC VBR 320 should be a larger file size than AAC CBR 320.

I think you answered your own question.

Would it then be common sense to sellect the lowest bit rate possible when encoding in iTunes AAC VBR?

From reading this thread on Hydrogen Audio, I don't think so.

AAC variable bit rate or regular AAC - Hydrogenaudio Forums

Correct!
If the above holds true, AAC VBR 320 should be a larger file size than AAC CBR 320. It may not hold true though...

That's only true for iTunes' encoder. For the Nero encoder, it could be smaller for simple music. I think I'll be switching to Nero since I already use it with dbPowerAmp for ALAC.
