laptop powersuply for cmoy?

so i was just reading where someone used a laptop power-supply for power for a cmoy. will this work? i thought it has to be true ground negative?

I use an old Dell supply to power a Pimeta - 20V 3A. The rail splitter in the Pimeta and the cmoy would provide the ground.

apparently the random compaq power supply i just found works fine, strait to the circuit, at 19.3 volts. pretty sweet now

like cobalt said, you still need to build the power supply for the cmoy, you just feed it from the laptop power supply. I have built about a half dozen like this with old laptop power supplies from 12-18V with either the standard cmoy power supply or a tle 2426 rail splitter set up.

Most laptop supplies I have used mate to the Rat Shack "M" style receptacles, making it really easy to add one on.

need to build it? what do you mean?

i just plugged one strait into my cmoy, and it worked with no problems.

correct. The laptop power supply takes the place of the battery.

You do need to incorporate the rail-splitter of the cmoy (or use on of the more advanced splitters nicely outlined on tangent's site)

Sorry to raise a dead thread. Thought it'd be better than starting a new one.

About using old laptop power supplies, since they're using switching regulators, is it a good idea to apply some kind of low pass filtering before going into an amp?

When powering your amps bare with it, is there any apparent HF noise?

Thanks in advance!
