Yankees: World Series Champions 2009!

This is a thread to talk about the Yankees winning an unprecedented 27 World Series Championships. Talk about anything you want here. I have been living in New York for 17 years now, and though I am not necessarily a baseball follower, I was happy for the Yankee team tonight. Many people in this country think that New Yorkers are arrogant and Yankee baseball, with an annual $208 million in salaries, stands as a symbol of everything wrong with this city. To be honest, I also wish that Alex Rodriguez would've gone down in history as the most talented player to never win a World Series title. Even New Yorkers despise his antics and his cockiness. On the other hand, and this is why I am happy tonight, Derek Jeter is the epitome of a gentleman. My hat is off to him and I want him to break the record of World Series wins. Finally, Hediki Matsui is the World Series 2009 most valuable player. What a wonderful thing it is for Japan to rise like a pheonix and produce a man to conquer this American game. First there was Cuba, then the Dominican Republic, and now it is Japan's time to shine. Isn't this what the American dream is all about? It is simply beautiful. On top of this, Matsui seems modest, humble, and he just does his job. No hyperbole, no controversy. In closing, I bow to the Phillies. Watching Chase Utley tie Reggie Jackson's record for homeruns in a World Series was breathtaking. Unfortunately, there must be a winner and loser, but I for one, salute both teams.

No one cares

^I care. Very sad/annoying as far as I am concerned. The only team I wanted to win less out of all 30 was the Red sox.

As beautiful as this World Series was, I understand what you are saying Scott. This country seems to be going to hell-in-a-hand-basket and sometimes I wonder if this is an example of the new Roman Coliseum, set up by our emperors, to distract us from excessive taxation, our lower standard of living, and government corruption.

MMA fighting reminds me more of the Roman times compared to baseball

Perhaps this shows just how clever our distractions are. Whether its baseball, the MMA, or Seinfeld, isn't it all the same?

The Yankees official website worded their winning of a 27th even before they started game 6. I though that was kind of interesting.

They just buy their way to titles. Not a insult or excuse. I hate the salary cap in football. Why penalize big market teams who can afford the best players.. And don't tell me small market, and money teams can't compete. Look at the 97/03 Marlins. WS winners.

Pfft. I never wanted the Yankees to win. I'd like to see Boston win again... Or being Canadian, perhaps Toronto.

Kind of glad A-Rod got the monkey off his back. "WE GONNA PARRRIIIIIII" lol

Congratulations to the Yankees. They are a great team.

Not to be political, but the Yankees represent everything wrong with our country. They destroyed a good game too.

Football is actually dynamic and interesting in my opinion because their system spreads the talent around.

The Yankees have some amazing players, and that's the only reason it's worth watching. The fans are a detestable lot, mostly due to the fact that if they were behind at the 4th or 5th inning the stadium would've been half full. They're the ultimate fair weather fans around here. The diehards are Mets fans, they have to be.
