That's odd. In every interview I've seen, Gilmour has always come across as a nice guy.
The history I read made it seem like i took over pink floyd by force and made it his personal band.

Maybe, he was a jerk, because Roger took him inside the band, sacrificing Syd, gave him a name and some notes to play,
and as a reward..
David took everything: friends, the name of the band Pink Floyd, and even the respect of Head-Fi'ers (http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f9/mos...-floyd-452461/)

Comfortably Numb isn't whole without David's guitars.

Gilmour never took the band. Roger was tired of Pink Floyd and wanted the band to be put to rest. After the Final Cut album (in which roger had fired rick wright, wrote all the songs, and sang almost every line) it was clear that Roger was not in it for the band anymore. The rest of pink floyd was not ready to quit and fought to keep the name and the band alive. After which, Rick Wright was brought back to continue playing and making music along side Dave and Nick Mason.

Roger thought that since he wrote the music, he was the brains behind the band and didn't want to see "his baby" go on without him. Sadly, Roger forgets that he was the primary lyricist+bassist and without Rick Wright's vocals+keyboards, Dave's vocals+guitar, and Mason's drumming, there would have been no pink floyd in the first place.

And let's not forget the Syd Barrett years when Roger was not the leader of Pink Floyd.

Well they do and they don't. How long did it take them to release their latest album, Chinese Democracy, and how many times have they broken up throughout their career? If you wiki "former guns and roses band members" and try to read the list while holding your breath, you will probably pass out.

While I agree that Waters and Rose have similar attitudes, I think that money was a big reason that GNR pulled back together (as well as their album being leaked). Waters never needed the money and he was tired of Pink Floyd. Too much bad blood.

There are a large number Rock and Roll bands out there that have had similar paths as GNR and Pink Floyd (Fleetwood Mac, Talking Heads, Genesis, Van Halen, etc.)

Drugs, sex, fighting, legal battles, jail, money lust, premature death; they are all central themes that make the R'n'R lifestyle so alluring to the fans, but ultimately wear many bandmembers out and eventually cause them to break up.

I am happy that I am able to enjoy all three eras of Pink Floyd (Barrett led, Waters led, Gilmour led) and while I would have loved them to get back together, it just wasn't in the cards.
