Grado Love

Thought that I would pass on this dandy of a story. A couple weeks ago the RCA plugs on the back of my RA-1 amp pulled out of the housing. For most folks this would be an easy fix, but it's not for me. I have some health issues that cause my hands to shake, and soldering is one of those things I just can't do anymore. So, I wrote an email to Grado asking if they could recommend someone in the Bay Area that was certified to do a repair. They did me one better, and told me that if I would send the amp in they would do the repair for me. I asked "how much will it cost?," and they replied "not a dime." I received my repaired amp today, complete with a nice note from Mr Grado. The amp works perfectly, and maybe its just my ears, but the amp even seems to sound cleaner than it did before. At any rate, its nice to know there are still companies like Grado out there that take care of their customers. This is just one more reason I love my Grados.

Fantastic story, CherryBomb! Very glad that everything worked out for you. All the best with your Grado listening!

I'm going to try that when the wires on my SR80's twist off. Wish me luck, lol.

I tried it when my SR60's jack broke off... no love for the bottom end of the line, something like $25 for the repair was the quote. Not ridiculous, but more than I was going to spend on a pair of $60 headphones.

Anyway I just bought sr325i's instead, that'll teach'm! (and now I take decent care of them)

This is the second time Grado has stepped in to help me. I think its important when considering the price for a set of headphones that you also consider the company and whether they stand behind their products, are responsive they are to customer needs, and are easy to work with when problems arise. In my case, my RA1 was never mistreated, and there was probably no good reason to explain why the RCA plugs would have come out. Realizing this, Grado stepped in and did the right thing. Most companies these days would never do this, and the mere thought of doing a fee repair would bring a smile to the face of the customer service staff. This is simply not the case with Grado. They stand behind their products the way men used to stand behind their handshakes. What can I say? I'm just grateful to know that there are still one or two companies out there that have this sort of character.

Nice story.
I wonder if your RA-1 is still in warranty.
I used to pay $30 for repairing my long out-of-warranty and broken SR-80.
I have no problem of that though.
I think they would normally charge for labor.
You're a lucky man~~

Definitely not in warranty; it's many years old.

That's good to know.
Actually, I'm willing to pay for reconditioning of my RA-1 after couple times of soldering and repairing the battery connection.....
