Diy Dac what should i go for?

Hello,

i'm willing to build a home headphones rig and will surely need a Dac. I would like to go for Diy because i could then do modyfications anf it's cheaper. I don't have a lot of money to spend, well maybe up to 40quid. I had a look at Alien Dac, i could then get some better capicitors. I had a look at ebay and found:
24bit/192hz this seems to be pretty interesting. Whole list of dac's on ebay: click.
Any recomendations?

First you need to decide what you are going to connect your dac to.

If you have a SPDIF output already (either coax or optical) then the DAC you listed is an option.

If you do not have a SPDIF output already, USB DACs such as the AlienDAC, the BantamDAC and the GrubDAC (which I designed) are reasonable choices, with the Bantam and the Grub the most recent designs.

are you happy to do casework? If not i'd go with amb's y1 or y2. AMB Laboratories DIY Audio Site
