High capacity, high sq player?

Tried to search but couldnt really think of a good query to pin this one down - what're the current recommended >40gb players? Don't really want to have to settle for an ipod (really dislike itunes for a start), but storing flacs and a large library just isn't doable on flash based players.

How about rockbox'ed Ipod Classic 5.5 gen? Plenty of storage and pretty cheap.

Do you have a budget? So far I think the HiFiMan-801 is the best quality and depending on your SD card can definitely meet your goals. It's also going to set you back quite a bit.

IMO I think iPod would be a nice choice, you do have a lot of alternatives for interface, like the aformentioned Rockbox. You can always run a LOD to an external amp to extract more quality

If you don't need video, a 4th gen iPod with Rockbox would work nice too. They're easy to find on ebay. Even if it's broken, a 4th gen is fairly easy to work on with lots of cheap parts (also easy to find on ebay). Get an LOD and an amp, and they sound even better.

Maybe Sony NW-A847?
PS: I wonder why nobody have posted their opinion about A847 in this forums. Maybe all A847 owners just were unable to use PC for the last 4 days because they're enjoying music so much?
