2. I preferred D1001 over MS-1, HD595 (which sounds similar to 555, on all accounts), and Q40. I felt that the MS1s were harsh, and was generally unimpressed with 595 and Q40.
3. AD700 is often said to be bass-lean, which is unideal for hiphop.
4. ES7 is often said to be uncomfortable.
5. SRH840 is currently available for US$150 or less, and will improve with amping (which, if you stay on Head-Fi, will eventually happen).

I personally don't find the ES7 to be uncomfortable at all. Actually, I think they would be a perfect fit for you. They have great but tight bass and somewhat rolled off highs.

Puma, I think the bottom line here is that there are a bunch of great cans for you to slide on for your first foray into being a semi-broke head-fier. Whatever you decide to buy, I bet you'll be happy with it... For a while anyway.

Don't quit reading the forum. You'll want something else in a few months... weeks... days...
