That is the truth in the past (and might be now). A lot of Vietnamese girls tried to find ways to get a green card to live permanently in the States, mostly in California where there're a LOT of Vietnameses, through marriage.
I really don't know why they keep doing that. Might be they still dream of a thing called 'American dream' in which they can have an much easier and better life. Sadly, not the truth. When I was in California last summer, I found out that a lot of Vietnameses felt regretful about trying to get to here. Life is not easy as they thought. Moreover, I lived in the Orange County and personally, I didn't think it is not any better than the biggest city in Vietnam, Saigon. Food was one example

I couldn't believe how bad it was.
