^^ i wanted to know if i could use my headphones + speakers at the same time in order to get best of both worlds...

How do you plan to amp them?

i just have a small cheap portable amp... i'd plug the amp into my laptop and then plug the splitter into the amp?

I suggest you get a power amp just for the speakers.

Wait wait wait... you're going to have the headphones and speakers going at the same time...

Doing that actually gives you a wider, however weird, sound field.

EDIT: Used to do this when gaming, but to really benefit from the grand sound field you need to have open headphones, which you seem do (Grados, right?).
But this will also FUBAR your HP's own quality quite a bit, considering that's Grados (or Alessandro? they all look the same).
