Radiohead - Muse tiny generation gap? - Page 2

Hmmmm, I've been listening to both Radiohead and Muse for a while now and I guess it never occurred to me that they are similar ... meh, actually I still don't think they are that similar, because at least in my mind, I like them for different reasons. I do agree that Muse is more "mainstream," at least in the recent couple of years, but maybe that's because I am of the younger generation that the OP mentioned so I hear more about Muse.

Undisclosed desires is probably one of the few tracks I can actually listen to on the new album because it feels like a natural progression (albeit a dregrade IMO) from "muse" and the textures in the chorus are quite interesting, whilst the rest of the album reaks of queen (done exceedingly poorly) and radiohead (particularly the exogenesis at the back in chord progressions and also intervals between the backing and vocals). The exogenesis stuff at the end does not belong on the album at all and is tacked on for the sake of artistic (this is opposite to my problem with radiohead who include absolute duds for the sake of the album such as The National Anthem which could barely be called music and much sooner be called a copypaste job of 4 bars of music).

Muse is good at first but it gets samey and boring after repeated listens. I don't like what they've done with the Resistance much either (the whole RnB thing mixed with wannabe symphonies) and I don't like the fact that they are more mainstream than they used to be especially among teenage girls, mostly thanks to twilight.

Radiohead will always be slightly weird and hopefully never popular among teenage girls mostly because Thom Yorke isn't exactly a studmuffin. I find their music is more complex and survives multiple listens better and I love they way they've progressed from Pablo Honey into their weird Kid A phase and now back to a more alternative rock phase. Who knows what they'll do next.

None of my friends like Radiohead but most of them like Muse, although they only ever heard of them since The Resistance and like ask me things like "Have you heard the new Muse song?".

I agree that Muse seems more popular with younger listeners than Radiohead. I think Muse's stuff is more attractive for their immediacy, whereas a lot of Radiohead's stuff takes several listens to really get into. I don't find Radiohead's stuff "catchy", but to me that's not a bad thing.

Love them both, even though I think Radiohead have been more consistent through time. They have been able to shift their sound and evolve in a more appealing way (IMO).

Still, there's no question about Matt and Muse's talent as a band. Fantastic.

I listen to both. I just find Radiohead too slow. Sure they sound similar, but most of Radiohead's mainstream songs don't have a fast enough tempo. That said, I hate it when songs have too fast of a tempo. I don't want to explore Radiohead for ALL of their songs, since I did that with Muse and it's still hell since there are so many hidden ones I've never heard.

I like more of Muse's older stuff than the new songs, but that's alright. Bands are allowed to have one or two bad or okay albums. Radiohead is just strange, but you can feel that there is some deep meaning in their songs. That's probably because I thought Radiohead was a legend, but was disappointed when I first heard them.
