Opinions on a Murse.

Frankly, I don't carry my laptop everywhere anymore, because it is heavy, so this big messenger bag that I purchased is really of no use. I am considering getting a really small messenger bag, like a murse. Do you guys have any suggestions. Basically I want it to be able to fit a full size spiral notebook, an MP3 Player with portable amp and IEM case(like the ultimate ears, maybe 1 or 2 normal sized textbooks, and my compact Franklin covey. I was thinking the small timbuk 2 messenger, so stay around that price range. Right now I have the largest Timbuk2 commuter laptop bag(the one with the outside compartment for the 17 inch laptop).

Don't get a man purse unless you're ready to come out of the closet as a metrosexual. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

If a messenger bag is too much, get a backpack. Or go old-school traditional with a briefcase. Pick up a used, vintage Halliburton Zero just because they're cool. Or maybe one of those vintage plastic Samsonite models - I've always liked those.

Just don't get the murse.

Well where is the murse line? Is a small messenger bag a murse? Thats what I always thought, and never though of those being metro. Eh I really don't care what people think of me, I just want something functional that looks good.

Have you checked out the smaller Timbuk2 line (i.e. Commute Slim, etc.)? What size laptop do you have?

I agree, a backpack is the way to go, no murse for me

Ditto, get a backpack and sleeve for the laptop.

I have nothing against murses (I have a couple, myself), but I would agree that they're not always the best for laptop use; a good laptop backpack is much better. I have this Swissgear backpack, and I think it's fantastic (you can read my review on it here).

LOL I think you guys are confusing notebook (as in laptop) and like a spiral subject notebook. yea... I don't want to carry my laptop with me, I want a bag for when I don't that I can still fit my *Spiral notebooks* and books in along with some other things.

Oh. He he. Woops.

Okay, then... murse it up!

I recently bought a cheap Russian gas mask bag for small duties. It's perfect! (plus, not many people crack murse jokes when they realize what it actually is... lol)

Ok, um I would go to an Army surplus store and get a canvas map or field bag, which to me is a cheaper alternative albeit more masculine than a murse.

Messenger Bags - Huge Selection of Courier Bags - eBags

Here:

eBags Macroloader Laptop Backpack > Laptop Backpacks > Backpacks - eBags

My dad got me that for my freshman year of college as opposed to both a small backpack and a messenger bag for my laptop, and man, that thing is worth its weight in gold. Not only has it proven to be really, really durable, it's extremely light and yet very, very well-padded... it has at least an inch of padding surrounding the laptop on all sides, so you can put your laptop in it and throw it around and not have to worry about anything at all. Best of all, it has a huge compartment in the middle that can easily fit two 2" binders and two large textbooks along with other stuff, and a front compartment, which I keep my audio stuff and my Ti-89 and laptop charger in.

For me, that thing has been perfect, and it's held up better than any other backpack I've ever owned in my life... I abuse that thing every day and the zippers are still in pristine condition and glide freely (the zippers are always the first thing to die IME, and they usually last two years, where I've now had this thing for almost four).

I've never been the biggest fan of messenger bags. They look nice and professional, but they still slide off your shoulder and are a complete pain if you're walking any significant distance because of the horribly uneven load you're putting on yourself. With this backpack, I can load it up with 20 lbs. of stuff and be perfectly comfortable.

Your choice, my $0.02
