AKG K 450 vs 420

Is there any diference between the 2 models (sound quality)? I have found someone telling bad things about the 450!!

Some time ago I have heard the 420, the bass is so deep that I still can't forget it. The mids are not so good

What would be the best choice (not for the money, just SQ)?

some ... some AKG's aren't to everyones taste. the 450 are very bass heavy, as are my K518's and K27i (jbl 410's). if you're coming from Sennheiser or Grado, they will take a little getting used to. however they do do fine detail as well. It's just a matter of letting your ears adjust to the AKG way. No good giving them 2 minutes then making your mind up, they deserve more consideration than that.

I am comming from the Koss KSC75. I can say that something is missing in the KSC75 bass (my personal taste). The lower frequences are much better played in the AKG 420.

Considering the bass quality, and not the quantity, are those AKGs the best options (just mini headphones models)?

And what about the AKG K430, does anyone know?

I've heard the k450 and k420 briefly side by side.

K420 is a definite no-no for me, just can't tolerate the very nasal sound quality like i'm missing much.
K450, on the other hand, is a total bass blaster. I was rockin seconds after i put them on!
ANd the details are no slouch either. Pretty open sounding for a pair of closed headphones. I dig them =)

The K420 and K450 are different headphones. The K420 are open headphones more similar to Koss PortaPro, Sennheiser PX100 and Jays V-Jays, while the K450 are semi-closed (I think) and more similar to Sennheiser PX200.

Personally I like the K420. They are less detailed than the PX100 and V-Jays (have never owned the Portapro), but they have a more fun sound signature than both the other headphones. Bass is okay, but slightly more muddy than the PX100 and V-Jays. Mids are not the most detailed, but still great for rock music. Highs are a bit sibilant at first, but it calms down with time and use.

So it depends if you want open or semi-closed portable headphones.
