If we're talking about using light bulbs (or large resistors) to drop voltage, or double voltage regulators, you're wasting a TON of energy. Probably more energy than the amp itself will use. I'm not trying to be environmentally friendly or anything; there's just no reason to be that inefficient. The rail splitter designs will probably give you the best results.

I completely agree: Lower voltage transformer or a railsplitter would be the ideal way to go.

If PSU size and heat dissipation is an issue, I really think a new, smaller power tranny is in order.
Perhaps you can save that +/-37v tranny for another project.

I'm interested in building the opamp + mosfet follower amp too and the cool thing is that I have a spare +/-18V toroidal from a dead behringer headphone distributor.
Also recently got myself a pair of IRFP240 power mosfets since the shop ran out of IRF510s. According to a mosfet discussion thread in diyaudio.com, Nelson Pass favors the IRFP240 a lot for SE applications anyway.
