On a less controversial note...

After reaching out to Audeze (took a few tries), Sankar finally sent me the newer version of the earpads. He hasn't confirmed to me that the original pair I received was the old version, but I could see the difference immediately when I got the new pads--they're thicker, with a sharper slope and flat outer edge. Plus, the old pads fit into my drawer, whereas the new pads don't.

Installation was fairly straightforward, Audeze has a helpful instruction page at https://audeze.com/padschange. The hardest steps were removing the 2nd yoke on each cup and removing the 2nd adhesive layer.

I'm definitely noticing an improvement in comfort--there's just more cushion to alleviate the clamping force of the headband. I also feel like the soundstage has widened and become more spacious. It's subtle, but the extra few millimeters that the drivers have been pushed away from my ears seems to lend additional air and depth to the sound.

I'm just wishing I had been enjoying these pads all along. I received my LCD-2s in mid-January, and apparently the new pads became standard some time in February.

I have owned many headphones and the LCD-2s are far from the most uncomfortable I've owned...are they among the most comfortable? Nope...but they're not that bad....really.

Does one need to fill the Warranty Registration to have a valid warranty ?

Just FYI the worship 009 tag was added by a moderator and I cannot change or delete it. Not sure if I actually worship it, as I see many people here merit a worship LCD2 tag much more than I am worth the worship 009 tag. I don't see why I should refrain from stating my opinion if overhyped statements regarding the LCD2 can be generally made, and if the moderator can conveniently ignore personal attacks to a non LCD2 worshipper ("immature troll"), albeit a proud owner. I am truly happy to own such a great headphone which actually has more head time than my 009, but I don't think some statements made in this thread are fully justified without comparison to the better headphones out there, comfort or otherwise.

It probably depends on the state that you reside in, and whether you bought them directly, from a retailer, or secondhand. But it certainly doesn't hurt to play it safe so register, it only takes a minute.

The moderator did not do that just for no reason at all. I assume it would take a lot to piss off a moderator.

We get this impression about you because of how much you gush over the Sr-009 where it's inappropriate.  Honestly, I wasn't the slightest bit offended by what you said, and I didn't think it was trolling especially considering that it has some validity to it.  However, to make such broad generalizations gets you in trouble on a site devoted to such a subjective hobby.  Tone down on the mentioning of the Sr-009s, no matter how honest it may seem, and be a little looser with your statements, and people will react better.  I know you've heard the best headphone currently available, and although the LCD-2s are hi-fi, they are not top-tier headphones like the R10, Qualia, HE90 and upper level Stax.  It isn't a fair comparison, and I'm sure we'd even agree with you that the LCD-2 just can't compare.

Not sure if any of you remember how much I enjoyed the LCD2 during my vacation last week. I love the LCD2 so much that I carried it with me on my vacation, together with the CLAS and SR71A, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 

 

I also believe I have the privilege to have heard the true potential of the LCD2 with the Esoteric K-01 and Leben CS300XS as the front chain at home, and I am more qualified than most LCD2 owners to say how good it can get.  I would not comment on whether the Esoteric K-01 is better than your regular players / DACs to avoid another flame war, but if Skylab's ranking  means anything to you guys, the Leben CS300XS has remained on the throne of the list of tube headphone amps, sitting tight above the Woo Audio amps. And honestly I don't think the recently hyped Lyr is even close to the CS300XS in terms of sound quality (both tube rolled). Coming from my home rig, I now use my LCD2 with my portable "bricks" in my office, and I carry them around during my vacation, but I am still very satisfied with the sound. The versatility is the reason why I like the LCD2 so much and why it gets more head time than my SR009.

 

Therefore, I am really hurt to be said as an "immature troll" given my love to the LCD2 as stated above.

 

It is just that sometimes I just can't stand the hyped statements. It is ok to be satisfied by the LCD2 and not look for anything else, but it is another to make blanket statements and say the LCD2 is the best in everything without listening to anything else which may just be better.

  I don't think anybody has said something like that.  I'm sure we all can agree that the LCD-2 is not the best overall, but it's certainly a runner-up for cost v. return ratio.
