Audeze LCD-2 Orthos - Page 11

okay, I bow to the voice of the majority for now (until some of us get to hear it), but I do want to point out that the poster asked about the quantity of the bass on the LCD2. what the LCD1 had to offer was lots of quality (I'm a planar-fan, and btw just came from an audio meet with plenty of planar speakers on display - remember that both LCD1 and LCD2 use planar drivers with certain characteristics), but I would not hold my breath for bass-head type quantity. as I tried to say at the end of my post, I'm not even sure I myself would wish for more quantity in the bass than one gets from good mid-to-high-end headphones. what I'd hope for in the LCD2 is speed, detail, delicacy, accuracy in the bass, neither more nor less than you'd get from a highly proficient player (in your music of choice - but if possible considered without use of amplification, since that, as well as the mix, can defeat most attempts to distinguish quality from quantity of low-frequency ear candy). oh well, the speculative wait...

a sneak preview :D

The time is near gents, I have been very fortunate to be allowed to hear these elusive headphones before general release. You are going to LOVE the look of these headphones - honestly one of the most beautiful set of headphones , I was so completely mesmerized when I opened the packaging. They epitomize fine engineering intertwined with rich wood and solid construction. Just WOW.

I will not post detailed impressions yet as they have just come out of the box tonight and the drivers have had at most 1 hour on them before coming to me. I have waited for such a long time for this moment that I half anticipated being disappointed , well after my amp had warmed up for 30 min and I finished settling the kids for the night I fired up a few of my "go to" tracks - 3 hours later .... an all too familiar story.

I know that I should take them off but they are surprisingly comfortable and sound truly fantastic that I am happy to unwind for a little longer.

They have very good bass, deep ( yes TP deep !! ) and detailed, mids are orthoesque and they are not rolled off on the top.

..dB

do they still look the same as the pictures on the website? what are you running them out of? and did you get the leather pads on yours or the velours? please describe soundstage when you get a chance, i was thinking about getting the HE-5's but i wanted something a bit more laid-back further in the back row like how the HD650's are. thanks.

This is the only part that was missing from the LCD-1. This is what the LCD-1 should have been and had the potential for. Just a nice enclosure with good pads was all that was missing to get those low freqs out. Otherwise they were the most balanced headphones I had heard stock apart from the venerable Wharfies. A moment we have long waited for indeed.

I enjoyed the LCD-2 at RMAF, being driven off a loaner ZDT amp that they were using. I'm more curious about how they look now. They made the wearer look like he had the antennae from the guy on the TV show "My Favorite Martian"

I am hoping there won't be complaints about the headband. I know there were some concerns even with the LCD-2 at RMAF. Rumors are that the driver is different from what you heard as well and its supposedly a whole lot better.
As for driving it with, I think Don has a far better amplifier to put the LCD-2 through its paces than what you heard it with

:-o!!! It's got THE bass?
You and me are gonna need to talk , the maffia don't have me yet .

And this is great news, as this is the production version (with newer drivers that the previous ones people heard at meets).
I think the high end headphone landscape is about to change

WHEN..............WHEN................WHEN........ .........? I am tired of the BS.

Why is their site still as dead as a Dodo?
I am sure they will update their site soon enough.
They have only sent a production sample out to dBel84.
The folks at audeze do have a full time job. So let's give them a break here guys. Am sure they are just as anxious to see the LCD-2 in the market.

Possibly only 2 orthos were ever tuned right from the get go since their inception and they were both 30 plus years ago. Nothing's more disappointing than releasing an ortho that isn't tuned to its best. A little more patience ain't going to be too hard to bear.

For now, we can look forward to some impressions from Don.

So I think 'soon', really means v.soon this time

At the NYC's Fall Meet, Alex and Co. had a prototype that had pros and cons when comparing them against the HE-5's. The headband was really ghetto, but Alex assured us that it was just something thrown together for the protos, so hopefully, it has been improved. The strong point that I remember about the LCD-2's were the sweet mids, but lacking bass.
