I'm looking for a headphone that will able to drive more cans (I don't want an OTL for high impedance and SS for lower). Roc seems a good choice.
One more question: can you use the balanced output, even with the SE input?

Yes.

In input stage SE input signal is "cloned" to inverted signal and both signals are V/I conveted to current signals. This way, from gain (ACSS) stage forward Roc operates with balanced signal (all 4 channels), no matter what kind of input is used (RCA, XLR or ACSS) and outputs balanced signal to phones or power amp.

I'm slowly leaning toward the Roc.
Currently I have a budget balanced setup (LD Dac_I and LD MKVII), I really like the sound coming from the balanced output, but the amp has some hiss with low impedance cans, so I'm looking for the next upgrade.
Really frivolous question: does the Roc come with the black case only? I've seen some pictures in silver, but not on the audiogd web site.
AudioGD has also some nice Dacs to pair with.. I can see a Reference One in you signature :-)

You could ask Kingwa if he can make a silver (non-anodized I presume) version for you. He's quite willing to do some customization for those who ask, if it's within his limits to do so of course (and possible).

What do you guys think of this amp vs. the LD MKVII- less money and componentry I know but is the Roc really worth twice the cost?

Probably not worth twice as much but I guess the Roc would be a better match for the Ref-1.

Sorry to bump off topic a little. If you are looking for Roc, you might consider used Phoenix currently in the FS forum. The Roc + shipping from China is almost the same price of that Phoenix shipped. Not to mention many goodies go with it.

Both Phoenix and Roc are very versatile. Balanced/SE input and output, 3-pin XLR, 4-pin XLR, 1/4" or use both balanced and SE at the same time. You name it!

So are you saying that tim3320070 should buy the Phoenix from himself?

The MKVII looks like a simple circuit with OPAMPs. Though I can't say I have extensive audio circuit knowledge, just on spec the Roc is a far better amp. I think in practical terms though it will mean a lot more detail with a good source with the Roc. The MKVII still looks like great value if all you want to do is go balanced though.

Sorry I did not pay attention to the dialogue with Tim's. The discussion on LD amps, for some reason, was filtered out subconsciously. My recommendation is generally for those who are interested in getting Roc, such as realmassy....

Hi Dukya, actually I would have already bought the Phoenix from tim3320070, as soon as I saw the post. Problem is I live in UK, and I need a 220V version :-(

Phoenix is sold but I will return to the AGD balanced rig as soon as I can.
