SEE PROS & CONS. NOTE: The clamping factor will obviously differ from person to person, but I'm surprised to find little mention of it, as it is the sole reason I'd never think twice about...

When I listened to the sound for the 1st time, I was hit by it. I was punched by the not-punchy-bass. I was hoping it would offer much better bass response than SE315.. equals to Klipsch Image...

Maybe try to score some nice second hand standmounted speakers Epos/Dynaudio/Dali/.. can be sometimes had for a great deal, browse the 2nd hand market, look up the msrp and some feedback / reviews. If you are lucky and patient $200 can get you some pretty nice speakers. same goes for the amp, $400 total ish could go a long way. I used to own a pair of ESi nEar 04, very convenient, but wouldn't go that road again, listened to some more in the store the bigger you go the better they sound, but most active speakers are still studio monitors and not really suited for music listening in my opinion. I wouldn't go around and buy new if you are on a budged.

Jonatan

The energy speakers I had were a bit boxy sounding but if you can get them really cheap they could be a good value. The Dali speakers I've had are very revealing in the top end; they do not try to gloss over the signal that your DAC and amp are sending them. You have been warned.
