You cannot lie @ The Apple Store

Thread Starter
My daughter's 1 month old iPod Touch 2G was sitting on top of the toilet and got knocked into the toilet by her dog. She immediately put a hair dryer to the iPod. The iPod came back to life but was not working properly. I went to The Apple Store and told the Genius Bar Guy. He took a flashlight and looked up the dock connector. He said that the moisture sensor had not been activated. He could not get the iPod to work correctly either, so he replaced it on the spot with another one.

I went home and put a flashlight to mine (same iPod) but could not see what he was talking about. Anyway, I tell you this so that you know you know about the moisture sensor.

Now I have a question: How do you set the screen to go off on an iPod Touch 2G when listening to music?. I turn the screen off by using the on / off switch on top of the unit. I did not see an option in the settings.

I'm not sure what the thread title has to do with the subject?

Anyways, I think you posted this in the wrong forum. If you notice, this is Non-Audio Gear and Gadgets.

Somehow I think the "genius" was bluffing with the moisture sensor thing.

Lie @ the Apple Store...
How does that refer to getting screen to go off on an iPod Touch 2G?

I think that proves they employ monkeys.

Their monkeys don't get near as many viruses as MS chimps but they cost more to feed too.

Some phones have a red ink dot that will bleed when it gets wet but thats more of an indicator than a sensor.

Samsung has a white sticker that changes color if it gets wet. It also shorts something, and disables the phone. If you peel the sticker off, it will usually restore operation.

Yes, nearly all of the PDA phones have one, often two moisture sensors. The nasty ones are the ones that are right on the edge of the case back (for those with removeable battery doors.) Even the slightest bit of moisture will make them bleed. So I always cover them up with capton tape, with a little bit of tape on the inside to keep the sticky part from touching the moisture sensor strip.

Now that's just plain ridiculous. Why don't they just put a big chunk of raw Sodium metal in there so it explodes and bursts into flames when wet?

No bluff. Because of the large number of customers who do exactly what the OP did, denying their fault in wrecking their gear, Apple put moisture sensors in all their portable gear.

I was hoping this would be some new video and sound enabled lie detecting app.

The iPod Touch's moisture sensor is not in the dock connector - it's in the headphone out. If you put a flashlight to it, you'll see a white strip at the end. You were lucky, in a way, I guess the Apple guy hasn't been trained properly yet.

As for your question... Goto Settings > General > Auto-Lock.
