As commented earlier in the thread, this material looks to be superior for headphone cables, and with it available by the foot, would be hard to beat:

If I were to DIY (I ended up not doing this), this would be the product I would pick.

 

Furryletters is selling for a much lower price/ft though, so if the standard Flexo is suitable, and price is the primary consideration, he would be the way to go.
