Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW! - Page 648

Just in case you hadn't seen it:  http://www.head-fi.org/t/638706/the-end-of-jmoney-audio-and-christmas-giveaway#post_8952033

Jmoney is closing up shop and currently had a 50% off sale with proceeds going to charity.  I love mine and they are probably the most comfortable set I have tried.  Good balanced sound.  I think the LCD-2 rev 1 pads have a tiny bit more bass, but I am not as big a fan of how they stick to my skin.  There is a slight tackiness to the leather.  The Jmoney pads don't have this.

FraGGleR, are J$ pads the same thing as the Beyer V2 Earpads he has on offer?

Cheers.

Is there any way I can make the 840 pads on my T50RPs slightly more oval shaped?

My ears are massive and they get uncomfortable after a few hours.

I think what you're asking is entirely impossible to do, without building or rebuilding the whole ear pad.  The structure of the Shure 840 pad will conform to the shape of the Fostex T50RP headphone cup itself.  But, do keep in mind, the Shure 840 pad has a slight oval structur to start with, but ends up getting more of a round shape from conforming to the the Fostex T50RP cup shape.

While I'm not FraGGlerR, here is some items to consider before we see a direct response to your question.

I suspect the JMoney Denon pads and the Beyer v2 pads could possibly be constructed of the same leather.  Here is a link to the JMoney leather pads for the Beyerdynamic headphones. http://www.head-fi.org/t/424130/review-jmoney-audio-genuine-leather-earpads-for-beyer-dt770-880-990

Also, I've secretly confessed outside of this forum that I was done with modifying my Fostex headphones.  So, what happens?  Today, I located two pair of the Denon JMoney pads from members of our forum here and made my purchase.  When will the madness stop?  The addiction is beyond reproach.

I believe so.  The pair I bought from him a couple months ago were originally for Beyerdynamics.  I assume the inventory he is clearing out is the same.  I ordered another pair.  I think the pads are quite good especially at half off.

I actually just had a PM conversation with Mr. J$.  The Beyerdynamics pads are a great price at 1/2 off.  They are supposed to be the same diameter as the pads for the Denon headphones.  The Denon pads that he has are being retained for his use, but if one wants to buy them, it would be at full price $75.00, or so.  Not the half price offered for the Beyerdynamic pads.

This hobby does not get along with big ears I guess. :P

If you tape the 840 pads on, instead of stretching them around the baffle, pretty sure you can keep the oval shape.

Additionally, I've received word from Mr. J$ that after tomorrow, he is going to be away for a few weeks.  So, if you really want some of the pads, go for 'em soon.  wink.gif

Oh, come on. You know we'd miss ya and you don't want that on your conscience. (And don't you want to be around here when this thread breaks 10,000 posts and we've discovered that 0.005 g of aerogel stripped from the space shuttle at the Smithsonian and stuffed into T50RP cups results in such incredible 3D imaging that you can see even with your eyes closed?)

Be careful, I only live about 25 miles from the Air and Space museum.  And, only about 15 miles from the Udvar-Hazy extension of the museum in Northern Virginia.  I could potentially hit them up for some aerogel and apply it to the Fostex.  I could then share the before and after impressions and the results with the group here.

In all seriousness, though, I guess I find the Fostex to be something of a puzzle where one never really gets to the point of completion.  There are so many options, tweaks and directions that one can take a pair of these that keeps this thread alive and companies who supply the modding supplies in business.  biggrin.gif
