Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW! - Page 9

I'll post next week. Anyway I just stuff a few on the rear cup.

Also, I tamed/controlled the bass by putting some thin layer of foam behind the driver. I'm almost where I want it to sound :) Tunable Orthos rocks :) Here's to the Ortho Ninjas - Kampai!!!

When I get bored I might just try something like the Leakypants :)

got pics?

wazzat?? All I want to do now is get rid of the crappy 1/8" stuff, I'm quite sure soldering the cable directly onto the drivers will make up for a nice improvement :)

and my ears seem to get used to the clamping, so that's cool!

It's somewhere there in the Ortho Round-up mega-thread and I believe this is the first one:

basically an open T50RP.

You can do an advanced search on the full headphones thread.

Have we ever actually heard any impressions of how the open ones worked out?

I don't think that I've heard anything about it actually sounding good open... looks nice, though.

^I've tried listening to one side without the rear cover... I liked it :) Just looking patiently for a donor.

you could already open the top fake vents w/ a dremel drill, I'm sure it'd kill! but then bye bye isolation X_X

ah, the female 1/8" jack in the left cup is really crap, sometimes it would cut the right channel...I've soldered the cable directly onto the left driver, micro-details have become much clearer :)

I don't think there's been any detailed impressions from Kabeer or Smeggy (the two I know have tried it) just that it didn't work out too well. No idea though as I haven't heard them. It'd be worth a shot especially if you can get them tuned right.

Just recently got Fischer Audio's DBA-02 - it will help me tune the T50RPs bass :)

x2.  Once you get the DBA dialed in fit wise, damn good reference haha.  Imagine if Fisher made an ortho?    Perhaps the LCD2 and TPs are close enough.

^I'm so glad someone can relate to me :D

it's like colorimetry...the human brain will easily compensate for a D50 or D93 display, but once you've tried a perfectly calibrated D65/2.3 display they look horrid in comparison.

I have to admit that the CD900ST has clearly shown me what neutral means...to me it sounded like the headphones version of the NS10M monitors. Flat, uncolored and a perfect monitoring tool...but don't try to enjoy music off them, though...that's really not their goal.

^I do enjoy the music on my NSM 5SEs :) Toshiba CDP>DDDAC>AKSA55W>NSM5SE

well, the NS10M are famous for their ugly mids...ppl were crazy about them because if your music sounds good on them, it'll sound amazing anywhere else: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep08/articles/yamahans10.htm

The CD900ST felt the same to me....OTOH, the T50RP doesn't "uglify" the music on purpose.

*facepalm*

Sorry, I thought I read NSM 10 a while back.

*facepalm*
