dumb question: ebay allowed in for sale forums?

I have a source component (echo indigo) that some head-fi members would be very interested in, it has bids on ebay but it's under $2.00 (ha!) Is it legit to post this in, say, source components for sale forum, on the last day of the auction? or is ebay specifically prohibited? I looked around for rules but didn't find anything. Thanks in advance.

I've had things for sale in the forum for a week or so and then i've added them to ebay and got more money than advertised for on the forum, while keeping the ad alive here, so as far as I'm concerned it isnt a problem, as long as your for sale post doesn't just contain a link to an ebay ad, a seperate ad in its own right.

Just make sure the person who wins and pays, either here or on ebay gets it and the ads are ended etc etc.

eBay listing posts, either in the main forum areas or in the FS forums, will be locked immediately, but left for public viewing.

It is also considered good form to list the item on Head-Fi first for a reasonable amount of time (generally 1-2 weeks), before posting a link to eBay for said item.

Ebay has turned into a giant pain in the ass. To many ebay stores IMO. I can remember when it was full of great deals and very few ripoffs. I get better results buying and selling on HF myself.

To reiterate what jpelg stated above, our policy is to close/lock threads in the Buy/Sell/Trade forums that link to eBay auctions, Audiogon ads, etc.

Our thinking is that if the item in question is not actually for sale at Head-Fi, then there is no reason to allow a discussion to take place about the item (i.e., if no transaction is to take place here, what is there to talk about?). Moreover, Head-Fi does not exist to promote eBay (etc.) any more than eBay exists to promote Head-Fi.

At the same time, there is nothing "wrong" with posting that you've put something up for sale elsewhere. It just becomes an announcement thread rather than a discussion thread. Because the thread is closed (remaining in public view) rather than being deleted (taken out of public view), someone who is in the market for that item will be able to find it with a search.

I wonder if there is any thought of changing this policy? This would of course be up to the mods, but there has been a lot of these postings lately in the FS forums and these rarely seem to get locked. If someone is not selling their item on Head-Fi, then why allow them to advertise here? I personally feel much more comfortable buying my gear here from established members rather than on eBay, so for me if I see an eBay link I am turned off immediately.

Just my opinion, but I would like to see these FS posts which link to eBay auctions forbidden altogether.

The easiest way is to just decide with whom you'll do business with. I, myself, prefer to buy from established members and to buy from a direct FS off the forum. I generally just bypass the eBay links and would never buy from anyone whos first post or only posts are sales or links.

Peace,

mlarn. I totally agree!
If the seller want to sell on Head-Fi then do so by using the FS forum. If not just put it up somewhere else and leave it at that, without advertising here.

I hardly use ebay anymore bucause of all the bs. Ive had no problems dealing on Head-Fi yet. Of course non-audio related things arent sold here, so i may check ebay.
