Extending a volume knob?

If I wanted to take apart a premade amp to put into a different enclosure, is it possible to extend the knob? Is it cheap and relatively easy to do? How about moving input jacks?

I am thinking about putting a bantam dac and a cmoy into the same enclosure, but since I have no experience soldering, I was going to buy some premade ones and then connect them internally, using an extension for the headphone jack and volume pot if possible. I was thinking this would be a way to make a little desktop for myself without soldering.

And yes, I plan on learning how to solder and stuff, but it doesn't really help me with changing the layout of kit boards.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes it is easy and cheap to buy a shaft extender.

Shaft Accessories

The big question is... do you even need one?
(CMoy boards are usually small and light enough that you can attach the whole PCB assembly to the panel by the pot)

Just one quick comment on Ocean State Electronics, I recently tried to order some supplies from them and after not receiving anything for almost two months and them ignoring several emails I finally had to file a claim with my credit card to get my $$ back.

Thank you both. If I can manage a cmoy on a small breadboard, and rearrange inputs, then I won't need the shaft extender. I am just collecting my options at this point.

Ocean State Electonics seems to be the only place in the US so far that I was able to find the extender off google. They have a message up now saying that they have had to cut staff significantly which is why there are are very long delays in even communication. They hope to have it sorted out by the end of the year.

I will try to build something that doesn't require the extension of the pot.

Just to get it posted somewhere in case someone looks for it in the future.

(note that you may need to source your own shaft coupler to use with the above)

Welborne Labs also used to carry a very nice shaft extension kit (currently out of stock) so if I was looking I'd send them an email.

I also think that it would be possible to piece most of this together at your local hardware store with the exception of the panel bearing.

Here's a simple solution.
Good luck.

Is that held in place just by the heatshrink? If it works well, that would be a brilliant way to do it. This first build is going to be a proof of concept and simple learning exercise. My final version will have much nice components than a bantam and a cmoy. Thanks!

Mouser has 1/4" shaft couplers and panel bearings in stock for $2 and $1 respectively...
