How do you start with a new CD? - Page 3

IMHO, true music fans listen to albums, not songs. Listening to songs is like reading individual chapters of a book instead of the whole book.

I agree.
Unless of course its a crap album and is just a collection of songs - then I pretty much wont like it anyway.

Even though I could probably say that myself, after thinking it more throughoutly, it´s a stupid compare. Songs don´t need to have obvious, strong relations to each other to make it a good album.

Read liner notes while playing all the way through.

As for those stickers on top of the CD case, they are fairly easy to remove if you carefully pop off the bottom hinge of the CD case, and then you can just peel the sticker off one half at time by opening the case from bottom to top, and then pull to the side (if you follow ).

The easiest way I've found is you put your finger nail into the hidge, this tears the shrinkwrap and gets the CD out, then you dig your finger nail under the edge closest to the outside of the album case, and get a small bit torn up, if you can tear it ALL off, doing this you're magical, otherwise, you then force it open and it tears a clean line through the top most sticker. You can then peel it off easily on both sides. Takes me about 2 minutes to get a CD out.

Usually, I start listen to No.5 track, dont know why,
I got the paranoia, that in 80% of cd i own its the best track

thats an interesting observation sonci

I usually listen to it in order, from track 1, listening to each track in its entirety unless something gets really boring or annoying, in which case I skip to the next track. But I hardly ever have the time or patience to go through the entire cd in one pass. Most of the time I will end up listening to first 6-7 tracks, end up picking favourites from those, and then revisit the album and continue from 7 onwards and then pick more favourites.

It depends if it's new music or not. Discs I get to fill out a set or just because they're cheap and interesting, I rip to iTunes, listen later.

But if I were to get a disc of specific interest, then I'd be ordering a pizza and have some beer/bud to listen through a few times.

The thing about listening to entire albums is a throwback to vinyl, where good audiophiles never set a stylus down past the lead-in.

This.

Well sometimes I click around and listen to a few seconds of each song to get an impression but usually I only buy cds I have already heard and love.

I put it in the shelf in its appropriate place and forget about it for a couple of weeks, before I get pleasantly surprised upon re-discovery.

If I did that I'd accidentally buy CD's again.

lolz

I'm starting to get sad about the fact that I only own three 3 cds(use rhapsody music service, though I'm planning on canceling it soon and start building up a physical CD collection...) the only problem with that is I have no where to put them, though I'd only be able to get 1-3 CDs per month...

Unwrap,insert and play to end.

I listen to the disc all the way through, at least once.

The disc goes in my server to be digitized (hate that phrase 'rip', feh!) and then gets filed.

Soon, I shall redo them all in FLAC.
