How do you start with a new CD?

The title says it all, how do you start with a new CD, or LP, for that matter? For me, I usually give it about a minute into each track to figure out what each song looks like, and highlight what songs I'm most interest me, and then I listen to the ones I like the most, and then move forward to hearing the whole album through.

What about you guys? What do you do to break in a new album?

I unwrap the packaging, stick it in and press play.
Rocket science, I know.

The first thing I do is make an ALAC copy. I then make a 256kAAC. I then play cd from start to finish.

I also check out that little booklet that they come with, usually reading a long to the lyrics/browsing ahead.

Stick it in and play and flick through the booklet for a minute without getting too settled. Basically play it as semi-background music for the first few spins.

I slam it into my cd drive, and then I hit shuffle and listen to it.

Shuffle? Why?

Something like this:
1. Unwrap package.
2. Feed the CD into the CD drive.
3. Rip the CD and encode to Apple Lossless.
4. Move the Apple Lossless files into an appropriate directory.
5. Add the Apple Lossless files to my iTunes Library.
6. Press play and enjoy!

on a slightly related note: who else hates the plastic wrap that CD cases are in?

I rip it to .flac on my PC then add the whole album to whichever playlist I've got going. I like to give them 4-5 listens from start to finish to get a handle on what the artist was going for before I start picking out singles to listen to separately.

I listen to it straight through a couple times and usually get interested in a few songs. I then use those songs as jumping off points to get to know the rest of the album. Eventually I start listening to it straight through again.
