HLLY DMK-IV (DAC, headphone amp, pre amp)

Hi,
on ebay I stumbled upon this little thing. HLLY haven't the best reputation so I don't really know wether or not this would make a decent dac/pre amp...

Some pictures (same as on ebay).

USB receiver: PCM2704
SPDIF receiver: DIR9001
DAC: CS4396
output: AD797

Featurewise it seems to be a direct competitor to the Matrix mini-i (w/o balanced out and no dual mono dac). Can't see, if they do a reclock on the USB part though...

What do you guys think?

best regards.

The only way to know is to hear it in person.

Want to volunteer??
Why don't you email the seller and see if he'll send it to you for a review.

It definitely looks sexy, I'd love to have that thing on my desk.

Any company that rips of the designs of others is not to be trusted.

HLLY MK III Vacuum Tube Headphone Amplifier Pre Amp - eBay (item 400074221711 end time Nov-18-09 06:10:18 PST)

It even has the nerve to claim a 2 year Little Dot warranty.

Pretty much sums up my opinion as well. Chinese company making knockoffs of another chinese product is a new low in my book.

Well did anybody try it

wow, never heard of hlly but that mk iii looks exactly like the little dot mkiii

LOL what a ripoff, and it's more expensive too.... what a lame company

Apart from the fact that copying is very lame... I thought David from Little Dot said their enclosures were custom made?

They are but in China anything goes, and you can get anything copied.

Perhaps they wish to finally start making original designs? I wouldn't mind reading some impressions anyway for the heck of it.

This cought my eye also. Its cheaper here: FM transmitter-HLLY Electronics
Its also here were they still clame the little dot warranty.
It is very tempting as it appears to be a MK VI for the price of a little more than a MK III.
It could be a rebadged little dot amp or It could be totally different innards and be crap.

To buy a Chinese clone of a Chinese amp is asking for trouble, from what I have heard the guts are not the same.

There whole description of the amp is copied from the LD one, buyer beware they are not to be trusted.

I bought a HLLY DMK-IV

Hello,

To be honest, I don't know much about all the items you are talking about with the HLLY products. I only wanted this nice looking thing on my desk when I was looking for a headphone amplifier on Ebay.

I bought the HLLY DMK-IV about two months ago on Ebay and I use it in combination with a Sennheiser HD 650.

For me there are only praising words to describe the DMK-IV. It's not only a beauty on the outside. The sound is superb!

Sorry if that's an inconvenient review.
