For a first time DIYer, CMOY or Mini3 V2?

I was interested in getting an amp, and I thought to myself "why bother getting something cheap like the Fiio e5 when you can build one yourself for a comparable amount?". I have NEVER built anything on a circuit board before, and thus do not have a soldering iron. My budget is $50. Which one would be better and more cost efficient to build? Which one would be easier? I'm currently using the RE2s and a F40. I'll upgrade my headphones at another date. How much would it cost to build each?

For your budget, it looks like the cmoy is a better choice, especially if you need to buy and iron.

The Glass Jar Audio kit for the Mini^3 is $89. And Jeff's kits are usually the standard BOM so I doubt if you can get everything for cheaper.

At the AMB website, if you click the scrolldown menu, and press mini3, why is the " pre-drilled and engraved aluminum panels, front and rear" $40. I mean, does it really cost that much to make? What if I just use another enclosure/panel?

As for the Cmoy, how well would I be able to do with $50

first of all.. all the tools and materials to start DIY are going to amount to at about $100.
this is:
hookup wire
soldering station
solder
flux pen/bottle
tools (wire strippers, helping hands, tweezers for electronics, pliers, exacto knife, DMM, etc.)
and more.

the CMOY itself is negligibly cheap. I wouldn't buy any fancy parts if I were you. The amp is no permanent solution, and is really only worth it as practice.

the enclosure is a Hammond 1455C801/802 (depending upon if you want plastic or metial end panels) for $12-13US

The engraved panels that amb offers are from Front Panel Express. And yes they do cost that much. amb has all the dimensions on his site so you can download the Front Panel Express designer and find out for yourself. They are not cheap, but you can get something that looks really nice.

AMB released a V2 Mini 3?

to the OP: CMOY is definitely cheaper than a mini3
