I have my recabled K701 for sale. They were bought new Aug'08 and recabled by Oritek Audio. The 15' teflon-insulated wires are great quality and turn the K701 to another class of headphones. The recabled units sound fantastic, particular strong bass & warm mid-bass and a lot easily driven by any amp.
Additional information from Oritek Audio:
The cables are made of a 16 AWG silver-plated copper with teflon insulation. They are soldered directly to the internal driver posts. Cables enter each driver directly while the original K701 had a single entry point and the signals was routed through the frame from the entry point to the opposite driver.
The cable does matter. The new sonics are similar to my HD800's !!
I realized that I had too many cans so it's time for selling ones. These K701 are broken-in already and were kept in the closet for months. They are still in a perfect condition with the original box. I would rate 8.5/10 (only some cosmetic blemish from minor usage). There are small holes for passing new cables in (see the photo). You need the cables of this size in order to achieve quality sounds. The pads are very clean.
The cans are in SF Bay Area. Local buyers can try them.
