"lighter" version of Opeth?

okay, well I'm pretty new to listing to Opeth( known about them for a long, kind of listed to some of their songs but never payed great attention) and from what I've heard I really like their musical style, vocal style, and lyrics style-- but from what I've heard/read of their lyrics, well I just find them a bit a depersing.

Are there any bands out their with a Opeth like sound, but with more netural lyrical content? I don't mean happy, but subjects not so serious/down/depersing/etc?

I really hope this makes sense, I'm really to tired to be posting...

From most heavy to least heavy:

Edge of Sanity
Cynic
Pain of Salvation
Novembre
Agalloch
Green Carnation
Porcupine Tree
Riverside

The last 2 counts as progressive rock and not metal. The closest you can get to kiddy Opeth (not in a bad way) is probably Novembre.

But then again Agalloch might very well be more depressing than Opeth .

Opeth is what Opeth is. Why don't you just not pay notice to what the songs say? What you have to remember is were talking Sweden here. Born from the Black/Death mid 90s. If you see it as a whole, it is one. The sound is perfect with what the songs say. Unfortunate though for some there is a darkness which I hear has been with places like Finland and Sweden from times long ago up until now. What will help is to get into the exotic strangeness until you no longer feel the songs are about sad dark things but understand that darkness is apart of the life we lead.

Sorry, most of the truly inspiring music is written with the incarnations of sadness, despair, loneliness, or anger. If you do not like Opeth because of the themes, perhaps the entire genre is not for you. In addition, if the themes really bother you that much, perhaps you need to analyze why they bother you.
