oh i see, my search didn't turn up anything.. I guess i should buy a soldering iron and some cables and use my hd 212s as tests to see if i could do it.

would the mod change the frequency response or affecting anything?

Shouldnt as long as the soldering is good. The only bad thing you are doing is adding more contacts, which could cause degradation If they get dirty or corroded. Also the signal now goes from copper to can, to copper, solder, nickel, brass,nickel,brass,solder, then back to copper. As the old saying goes, the best connector is no connector.
