Yet Another Suggestion Thread - Need Cheap Amp/DAC

Hi guys. As I'm currently happy with my setup found in my sig, I am looking for any good amp/DAC's for portable use. Here are my details regarding the chain:

Music: Mostly FLAC/ALAC lossless, 320 kbps VBR/CBR mp3 files

Gears: iPod Touch 1G, MSi GX620 laptop

Interconnects: JDLabs iPod LOD, Fiio Interconnect

Headphones: AKG K518 DJ, Sennheiser HD 238 Precision, Sennheiser HD 555, Grado SR80i (soon)

Requirements:

- Price is $100 at most, only brand new purchases.
- USB DAC with Amp (for my laptop)
- Small size (for outside use)
- No gain required
- Ability to drive my headphones

So, these are my requirements for a cheap amp/DAC. I'm already interested in the NuForce Icon Mobile, but I am open to more suggestions. Thanks!

well, that's pretty much it in the battery powered variety for that price.

If you JUST want a DAC and don't need an amp, the HotAudios are under that price, and so is the Firestone Fireye II, which does have an amp but no battery.

Oh, so the Fireye is only powered by USB or an external power supply. Lemme think about that, but it is very interesting.

So, I've been looking at these choices, and I'll just repurpose these Amp/DAC's for home use.

- HotAudio HOTUSB1
- iBasso D2+Boa
- Firestone Fireye II

And I've seen the Simpl Acoustics A1 iPod Amplifier for only $150. Is it any good? I can just settle for this one too.

D2+ Boa is a very nice choice..but the price is about 50$'s more than you have specified...

You can have a look at Nu-Force Icon Mobile...though this device shines more as a DAC than a amp ....

You can also have a look at the AMP 3... (again slightly expensive)

Lastly the IBasso T4 ..... as a portable amp (no DAC)

I also started a similar thread here some time back..and zeroed in on the AMP3 ...wince it suits be very well..(im a Die Hard Bass Head)
It also has a inbuilt mp3 player!

I can stretch the budget, at the cost of lowering the specs of my upcoming PC build.

Very much interested in the AMP3 and D2+Boa. You can give me more recommendations as I'm a noob in the amp/DAC scene. Thanks!

Ooh, the D2+Boa seems to be highly recommended here. How does it sound?

Also, it's sad to see the portable and rechargeable D2's are sold out. Any other options similar to it? Thanks.

and i don't see it as out of stock on ibasso's website.

Well this says otherwise.

iBasso

I hope they can get these back in stock!

iBasso The D2+ Boa adds a line out function and is in stock. the other (non +) is the same without the line out is out of stock.

I see. So the D2+Boa can be actually recharged? Considering it says something like 38 hours per charge, I'm assuming this is possible for outside use.

Yep. Just connect it to your DAP, strap the two together and off you go.

Thanks dude! Seriously considering the D2's now when I get to the US. Any fees on the shipping to Houston?

I really don't know. Try emailing them at service@ibasso.com and ask them. They were friendly to me when I emailed them.
