I used to beg my parents for them...my dad said "son, one day you will thank me for not allowing it."

Thank God my parents didn't subject me to that.

...No. Not. Ever.

I really wanted Spiderman, but Woolworths was all out of the good superheros. Mommie got me Secretary of State Al Haig Underoos, which weren't as good. When the other kids were fighting space aliens and capturing diabolical super villains, all I could do was run around saying, "I'm in control here."

I used to wear them. They were classic underwear back in the 1980s and 70s I think.

Stunning. Really Spareribs, I think this is a public service. And a lesson to the rising generation.

But what I want to know is where are they now? Are they about to make their career breakthroughs in the next Wes Anderson film, or are they just running mobile meth-labs from the back of their Cherokees with a face full of gray stumps?

Don't joke about parents not having enough money for the cool superheros. I think I had the only pair of Shazam underoos ever made. Nobody knew why I had a red t-shirt with a lightning bolt on it and red undies. I didn't even know who Shazam was. There wasn't even cable TV in my town until 1988.

I suppose none of you ever wore brown corduroy pants either? Or what about the sneakers with the velcro straps instead of laces? Or had to add water to make milk for your cereal in the morning? Or thought macaroni and cheese was a food group?

I would seriously consider locking this thread before Patrick shows up.

Thank god I was born after this happened, and just in time for Lisa Frank.

Neon purple ponies comprised my childhood trauma.
