"Great" Albums you just don't "get"? - Page 2

Another one for Radiohead. I've tried and tried, but it's still little more to me than 'slightly irritating'

Pink Floyd - Final Cut. Floyd good, Waters boring.

The Beatles -- No coherence to this album whatsoever and chock full 'o filler IMO. Contains some of the worst songs the band ever produced.

Sadly, me too. I've picked up In Rainbows, The Bends, OK Computer, and Kid A so far and give them a listen every now and then. I don't hate Radiohead, but I struggle to get "into" them. A few songs I like here and there, but nothing ever crawls into my head and demands repeat listening.

If you can't get into OK Computer, it's probably not worth trying anything else. It's the most accessible radiohead album IMO.

What I dont get is "Kid A" being the "best album of the decade".

It took me a while to appreciate infected mushroom. But <3 it now

I remember when Kid A came out and everyone was freaking out about its awesomeness and I listened to it and went "people need less free time, this is terrible."

Maybe I just don't get it, but the fact that Kid A is album of the decade makes part of me die inside.

As for me, im happy to say there are very few classics that I dont end up liking, having given them the time they deserve.

That said, I love hip-hop but dont get Jay-Z. Definitely a classic/force within the hip hop world, but his flow, voice and beat selection annoys the heck outta me.

It's because the site in question is filled with hipsters, that is all.

Radiohead except Pablo Honey and The Bends, most Porcupine Tree albums, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan and other I can't even remember.

Maybe that wasn't meant to be a value judgment, but I must say it certainly sounds like you mistrust HipHopScribe's sincerity. I mean, I wouldn't automatically assume that someone called, say, "RockScribe," would be averse to hip-hop, especially not at a time when quite a few hip-hoppers have displayed an affinity for guitar-charged rock. I might think the worst about someone called "PinkFloydScribe," though.

One great album I know I should like but can never get into is Blue by Joni Mitchell. Eh, I'm not worried about it.

The 80s was full of music that all of my friends loved but did nothing for me such as U2, Joy Division, and numerous others that I can't think of off of the top of my head. I didn't hate them, but they were played so much by my friends that it got to the point that I didn't want to hear them again. I recently saw Zooropa at a thrift store for $1 so I bought it and liked it. So I bought some more U2 and it's just kind of blah.

The one "great" album I don't get at all is Pet Sounds. It is the only Beach Boys album I've heard, so it could be that I just don't like the Beach Boys except for their hits. I love Good Vibrations recorded at the same time so who knows.

Does anyone like Final Cut?

x2 put I still like it because it has great songs as well as the filler. I could really do without the Revolution tracks.

"The Wall". This from a card carrying PF fan. Roger Waters and David Gilmore were a good balance together. Apart, not so much.

I like this thread. Quite often I question myself as to why I dont get some of these albums which so many ppl think is a classic or a masterpiece. Here are a few

Smashing Pumpkins - As a band itself I dont get these guys. I tried real hard, trust me, since I like a lot of similar bands, but I just dont get Siamese twins or Mellon collie.

Mastodon - Leviathan - This album has been recommended to me so many times, yet everytime I try, I get bored real soon and I just dont seem to get why its so awesome

Yes - Closer to the Edge - I love Fragile, and the Yes album. Fragile is one of my top picks infact. Yet I dont seem to be able to get into Closer to the Edge at all.

The Flaming Lips - Just dont get it. Everytime I say I like Radiohead, Muse, or something along those lines, someone says go listen to Flaming Lips. Dont get these guys at all.

Arcade Fire - Funeral - Again an album thats just recommended everywhere, supposedly one of the top picks over the recent years.

Cryptopsy - Frequently mentioned band when I talk about death metal and stuff, I find their stuff very silly and almost comical. Just dont see how this can be considered great stuff.

Pink Floyd - Animals. I am a fan of Floyd. I love Meddle, Atom Heart, DSOTM, WYWH, Wall, Final Cut. But for some reason I cant seem to appreciate Animals.

I am gonna get flamed to the Nth power here but

The Beatles - Sgt Pepper. Just cant seem to like this as much as ppl seem to. I love Abbey Road, Let it Be and like some of their other stuff but this one doesnt rank among the top like many Beatles fans seem to rate it

Genesis - Another frequent recommendation I just cant get. I have quite a few of their albums since I bought them blind when so many ppl said "u like this? so u will definitely like genesis"
