***Finally its resolved***My laptop is dead, almost 4 weeks at service, getting mad up here...

Well, just before the warranty expired, my laptop was dead, didn't want to start up. So, I brought it to the service, already gone for almost 4 weeks, and seems that they could save most of the data and I thought it may have to be reset or something but now I got mail that mother-board and DVD-room have to be replaced and they still waiting for board
Guys, don't you think that by giving me the new laptop would be cheaper for them? I am not technical at all, but is it that serious when mother-board is dead? To me, it must be the most important thing in PC, isn't?
O.k., I want to just share this, cos it is freaking frustrating and takes so long to get it done.

Sad to hear. 4 weeks is way too long. Could be worse though, I have been without internet for ~4 months last year...

The motherboard indeed is the most important piece of hardware in a computer. It connects all the different components but they are not really expensive. For a well thought of board with decent overclocking capabilities you are looking at around 100€.
I think you should ask about that dvd-rom drive. It is weird that the drive is broken... Did it work before you brought your laptop to them? If so, I guess they broke it.

On the brighter side, if only your motherboard went fubar there is a good chance you will keep all your files!

Thanks man. Well, at first, before he was send it to manufacture, they save the data and its already cost me, extern drive+work hours On the other hand, if you don't do that, you can loose everything, cos they simply didn't knew what was the problem, at least that's what they advised me. My laptop is almost 2 years old, still up to date, but still 2 years, which is huge time for such thing as IT. That's why they didn't had the parts right away, I think. My DVD drive was bit loosy, some CD's were trilling like crazy, so, it is good that they replace it.

what kind of laptop is it? if the motherboard needs replacing, you might as well consider buying a new laptop (unless it's covered by your warranty) because motherboards are quite pricey and you may need to count in the labor on top of that. save yourself some time and money. they usually extract the files from your old hard drive and transfer it onto a DVD or external hard drive, so it's easily transferable onto another computer. 2 years isn't actually that old; i've had laptops that ran a good 3-5 years. my desktop still runs strong at 6 years.

Its Asus with 2 years of warranty, luckily still covered, otherwise my wallet would kill me.

Did you take it to some sort of service center or deal directly with Asus support? I'm guessing a service center since you paid for a HD+backup time.

these things tend to go a lot faster if you don't deal with a third party. Never had my Asus fixed, but my MacBook Pro needed a new motherboard and the part arrived next day and was installed the day it arrived.

I brought it to the shop where I bought and they made the back up for me, then they send it to Asus service centre for repairs.

four weeks is unconscionable, they should replace the PC. And you're right, it would be cheaper for them to replace the PC than to replace parts and sink all that Tech time into repair.

do manufactures keep parts for a two year old model?
If they don't, I can see why it takes such a long time.

^ Philips doesn't. I found out the hard way with their DVD-players. Seriously they build devices and then they build new devices. They don't offer any kind of support at all. If your Philips stops working, the only thing Philips can do in that case is offer you a new player at some discount.
True story. Happened to me and lots of others.

I realize you are not in the USA, but here I will only ever buy laptops from two companies. Dell and Apple. In my experience these are the only two companies that offer decent service in the computer world. Many other companies are just useless. Long waits, incompetent service, only half fix the problem, fix one thing and break another, you name it, many of these companies are experts at this.

Also, laptops have reached the point where it may be cheaper to just replace it then pay repair costs. You also get the peace of mind knowing your data was not in the hands of some stranger.

Well, thanks guys, I am quite angry, but on the other hand if that's the procedure that Asus takes, what can I do? I cant say anything about which company better or worse, but if I am going to buy my next one, I may choose Apple. Not sure why they don't replace the laptop, maybe cos its not that cheap, paid EUR 1300 when he just came out, it was very new model then, so, to replace it, they have to give me same one, meaning options etc, but if I look at their price tag today, they still hit EUR 1200 range.

I thought Asus was reliable.

I have been mailing and calling with Asus for past 10 days and finally they told me that they wait for approvement from head office for possible replacing, say what?! After I got this message I thought wow, within couple of days, or maybe a week, I will get a new notebook, but hold on...First they must approve and how long its going to take isn't clear at all. Second, they will try to make me an offer that close to spec of my broken one and if I accept, its going to take another 2-3 weeks before I get new pc, pfff...This info was send it to me 2 days ago, nothing yet, and I am wonder how long its going to take?
Anyway, I wrote a letter to Asus and ask them for a fully refund, don't want to do anything with them anymore, even their replacement going to be approved, I am done with them. I brought my notebook to a shop at 23-09 and today is 06-11, to be continue....

Ah, weak... You really don't want to fuzz around with warranty etc.. At least, that is my experience. I hope you will get your laptop back as soon as possible.
