Disappointing New Releases

Just got the new A Fine Frenzy album...
Not what I had hoped for or expected at all. I expected something that was very well worth my money rather than something that is poorly produced by contrast to the original.
It's great to go in a different direction but it just sounds so mediocre compared to "one cell in the sea".
2 Stars. Expected 4 or 5 /5.

Don't even get me started on Muses new album; "The Resistance".
I expected the Muse album to be a bit crap though. The fine frenzy album shocked me

MrGreen out $15

edit: oh, tell me some of the releases that were disappointing for you this year.

The amount of new releases that I have significant expectations for is amazingly small... Wish I could contribute here but I can't.

Biggest disappointment this year has got to be Porcupine Tree - The Incident. Really half-assed, pretentious effort from Wilson and co.

Definitely The Incident. I can't listen to it all the way through without it getting tedious.

I tried to listen to it again last night, as I thought I was initially being hard on it, but no, I just couldn't finish it.

Actually, I find "The Incident" fantastic for a 2009 album, but maybe we expect too much from Porcupine.
I would expect better from Prodigy, Invaders Must Die

most all of the bland, soul-less indie rock that gets good reviews

Together Through Life was disappointing.

A couple that immediately came to mind from this year anyway.

The Thermals- Seems like they totally lost their edge.
Asobi Seksu- Where's the noise?

Take My Breath away by Gui Boratto. Chromophobia was a microhouse masterpiece, and that he followed it with such a stale album, was a real letdown for me.

Agreed on Muse and PT.

mewithoutYou - it's all crazy! it's all false! it's all a dream! it's alright... I really looked forward to this one, and probably had expectations that were too high. But their last two albums are two of my favorites and this one did nothing for me.

i was pretty dissappointed by fall of troys new album in the unlikely event.idk its just really different from all of their other stuff but maybe someday i will get used to it

I hate to say it, but the new Dream Theater (Black Clouds...) hasn't gotten more than a few plays since I got it release day. Now that I think of it, neither has Systematic Chaos. They really need to hire an outside (the band) producer to tighten their sound.

This year has been TERRIBLE for expectations. Albums that have been somewhat/immensely dissapointed this year:

Converge - Axe to Fall
Between the Buried and Me - The Great Misdirect
Pure Reason Revolution - Amor Vincit Omnia
Riverside - Anno Domino
Be'lakor - Stone's Reach
The Fall of Troy - In The Unlikely Event
Persefone - ShinKen

That's virtually just off the top of my head too ...

Before the year, I was very excited for the albums there planned to come out this year. So far, none have stood up to the expectation. It's like all the bands just decided to take a step backward this year or something. It's really annoying.

Air - Love 2. One or two OK tracks but the rest is so dull and uninspired. Certainly not the return to Moon Safari that's being marketed.
