cowon d2 vs. d2+: to be used with amp

i am wondering how a d2 or d2+ would compare sonically with my toshiba gigabeat f40, used with my sr71a amp driving my grado gr8's?

specifically i want a dap that will play flac files, offer me more than the 40gig storgae of the toshiba - via extra sd cards will be ok.

plays flac no problems

sounds as good or better than the gigabeat

works well with my sr71a amp....

any thoughts on the d2 and/or the d2+ in the context of these concerns.....

my primary reasons for upgrading, if i do, would be better sound, and bigger capacity via extra cards which would be easy to carry around.

thanks for your responses...

I've tweaked the EQ on my Rockboxed Gigabeat F to the point where it beat my D2 in SQ. I even tried the D2+ firmware hack, but it still gets beaten.

With my setup (a MiniBox E+ and my HD 600's), I was able to adjust the pre-cut to a point where i could adjust the EQ as I like and still avoid distortion. I have yet to find a player that beats this setup, and I've had a lot of DAPs.

As for the D2 or D2+ themselves, I didn't hear a major SQ difference between the two. My S9 sounds better with the right EQ tweaks, but again doesn't beat the Gigabeat (although it comes real close). Btw, for me - I enjoy a nice full bass, noticeable highs, and a good soundstage when needed - everyone's ears are different, of course. I'm also wondering if the Rockbox D2 firmware will offer the same EQ customization, but that's not stable yet.

Also, of note: You can mod the Gigabeat to take a CF card via a cheap adapter from DealExtreme (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10886) - find a broken F10 or F20 and you can even reduce the thickness of the F40. I have this running on an F20 that I modded for my daughter - I'm using an 8GB CF card, in that setup. I believe we're limited to 32GB cards, at least for now.
