Head-fi remembers Elliott Smith - Page 2

Thanks for making this thread.

My username might indicate I'm a fan.

I wanted to type something profound, but I'll just say that I never tire of his music. There's times where he's all I listen to, and I never burn out of it.

And I'll also say, he could really pull off a great melody.

I love elliott smith, and I have had all of his albums for a while. I guess I am going on a bit of a listening marathon tomorrow, then. It is a shame that he is gone.

As a sidenote, every single time I hear the name "Johnnie Walker", my mind jumps straight to "miss misery". What a great song.

I definitely think XO is the best place to start, but that doesn't mean I think it's his definitive album. I think Abbey Road is the best place to start with the Beatles, but I don't think it's their definitive album.

XO is very much the album which introduced him into the mainstream, not that it's a mainstream album.......but it has a mix of the early sound he was known for (the lo-fi acoustic) and the heavy production of Figure 8.....

I'm of the opinion that XO, Either / Or and Figure 8 are all equally great. And From a Basement is not far behind those 3. His self-titled is very very good, but I listen to it less than the 4 aforementioned. Roman Candle I own, but have not given it that much attention. New Moon is a superb companion to his work but I don't view as an album.

You will have a genuine idea as to whether you love Elliott Smith by purchasing Either Or / XO / and Figure 8..........all three albums are about as different as Rubber Soul / Revolver / Sgt Pepper.............and From a Basement was going to be his White Album.

Take a listen.

I read this today before I saw this thread...

"Why I Can't Listen to Elliott Smith's Music" | Spin Magazine Online

Personally I listen to his music often and one of my favorites is New Moon.

So, I figured you might know about this, but anyone chime in.

Is there any chance we ever get a Roman Candle vinyl repress?

I just found a couple new unreleased tracks by Elliott Smith on youtube and they are both quite awesome. I really liked the experimental direction he was going with. Wish I could of seen what the finished songs were like.
