I want an excellent quality portable source.

What i need are

1. can play flac
2. excelent sq(this is the most important of all rite)

I don't need video playback, wifi, radio, etc. What i really want is flac and excellent SQ. my budget is under 150 usd. Any suggestion? Right now I'm meddling around sony walkman series

This should be a sticky, IMO, given the frequency of the question.

Cowon players also have good SQ and play FLAC, but in pure VFM terms its hard to go past the Sandisk players.

I don't think any of the cowons are gapless though. At least all of the ones I've owned aren't.

I have tried amp3 pro2 and it is over my budget. My friend keep telling me sony walkman. Is the only good product of sony walkman is the x series only?

Can your friend pls tell the rest of us how we can play FLAC on our S and X series players ? The answer to the second question is 'no', but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Sandisk players - dont make this harder for yourself than it has to be.

Sansa Clip+ with FLAC is inferior to my SONY with good old lossy MP3/AAC. So if you want good quality, don't get a clip... unless you will amp it, but didn't you just said "portable"?

any rockboxed player will also play flac and there are a good many which output a much better signal than the clip/fuze.

The price of AMP3 pro2 is USD 159, it seems exceed your budget, but it comes with a hi fi earphone and portable amp function, so it's a best cost efficient investment.

if you like, you can also try the T51, the price is less usd 150, but you need to pare a portable amp to get the good sound quality.( use it's line out)

good luck.
