Do you use your DAP for video ?

I have resisted video for years, knowing that it would eat up too much space, but I didnt really grasp just how much ...

I downloaded the first ep of 'True Blood' from the iTunes Store, synced it to my 8GB 1G Touch (I'm giving it to my GF, and its useless for music IMO) - 684MB. I am currently downloading the entire first season (I liked what I saw in ep 1) and hoping that the hard drive on my netbook will be enough for the remaining episodes. Seriously, even with a 64GB Touch, how much video does Apple see folk storing on a DAP ? Likewise, my Sony has a great little OLED screen, but would I be willing to sacrifice any of the < 32GB the player came with for the novelty of having video on my player ? The quality of the end result on the Touch is glorious, but I suspect that I may need to review my settings for any future downloads.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that, iPhone aside, the primary purpose of these gadgets is to play music - if it doesn't do that to your standards, you might be better off with a netbook. A netbook with a very large hard drive, and a fast net connection from work where it doesnt cost you anything !

I have the 80gb 5th gen video which can hold many more movies but the screen is too small to use comfortably. I often attach it to my 36" flat screen via RCA adapter. but that is the only way I'll use it for video. It's mostly my portable audio source because of it's large capacity. My son has a 60gb 5th gen video and it has around 45 movies on it but they are large files. about 1gb/movie

Rarely. If I go on a vacation, I may bring my PSP / Cowon D2 to watch videos, but I'm very content without the feature.

I have a couple of movies on my touch. The problem for me is getting them on there. The ripping and trancoding just takes too long.

Back in the day, I put a few videos on my Zune. It worked decent for video, but sometimes the poor quality was very noticeable. Videos looked decent most of the time, but sometimes they were very pixelated. Later, my music collection grew exponentially, and I really needed the space. It's a neat feature, but I just can't sit through an entire movie or even a TV show on a screen that tiny. I'd rather listen to music anyway, but that's just my preference.

Ripping can be a pretty big pain. Clone DVD Mobile worked pretty well for me. It had settings where you could just click "iPod Video," "Zune," or "PSP," and it would automatically adjust the resolution, screen size, etc. Lots of different quality settings and fairly easy to use, but still not a very fun task.

I store several live performances on my 32Gb Touch…

I watch them on flights, since I have never had time to watch them at home…

Image Quality is so good that I always get people asking me about my gear or the process of getting a movie there and so forth…

I use my 32 GB iPhone 3GS for video all the time.

I always make shure that there's some movie or soemthing in case I feel like watching something.

Tend to watch only music videos on my 64GB Touch but also rip DVD's to it when I'm away on business and watch them via the composite out cable on to the Hotel room TV. Have around 50GB of music on my Touch so still plenty of space for Apps & a few DVD rips (delete once I've watched them).

Have watched a few TV programmes (under 1hr) on occassion on the Touch itself when I've been sat at my lads Karate classes.

I do watch some video podcasts like TED on my touch 2G and the X from time to time but very rarely do I watch movies or TV Shows. On the go it's mainly music and if I'm at home I'd rather enjoy videos from my much larger computer screen.

My AMP3 is my primary audio player and if you've seen one, you'll know that even if it could read a video codec, watching anything on it would be pretty much impossible. It does claim that it can read ebooks and my only response is "Why?".

If I want video I'll use my Ipod, Zune or PSP go.
