Yes people have reported that the titans is not that good and have a harshness/sibilance in the high that the mini monitor don't have.

I am very happy with the Role Audio Kayaks as nearfield computer speakers driven with CA Azur 540A. If you listen at low volumes, then they will do fine without a subwoofer. They are sealed boxes, so you can place them near the wall. I use them with angled speaker blocks I bought from Adam Audio. You will like them.

What a chance someone here have almost the same setup as i plan to buy.

Yes i listen at low volume and i dislikes overpowering bass maybe even more than harsh high, for example my sub of the gigaworks is always too much even with EQ and damping under the sub, especially on techno or rap.

So i really don't need a sub.

I have quick questions :

How do you find the sound signature of the kayak, it is smooth with wonderful voices and soft highs like the reviews ?

The sound is still barely the same at low volume or it lost details and better tones ?

The sound is still good at close nearfield ? around 0.8 meter (2.6 feets)

Do you using bi-wiring with it ? any benefits ? i think i better stay with single wiring.

I am afraid that the amp is too powerful even with these low sensibility speakers for example i use cheap samsung bookshelf scavenge from a cheap stereo, i d'ont know their specs but the amp is way too powerful for them, the volume pot stay at around 8 oclock and its difficult to pick the right volume because a slight movement on the pot and the volume is too loud or too quiet (i think its even more sensitive than when i use my headphones on it) but this only happen when using the cd (and some cds are louder too) its okay on vinyls.

I think tube amps should be made for me.
Thank you very much.

Hmm... I think its wiser to take the Swans m200mkIII for the computer and build something like a Zaph|Audio SR71 for my stereo system, since my computer is in the living room with the hi-fi setup, i think its a better solution than using a big receiver for the computer or changing the room design.

I prefer having a really good sound from computer and audiophile quality hi-fi setup apart, its more convenient and avoid using always the computer for listening music though i can also use one of my laptops too.

However i believe for someone having only a computer as music source and small room an Dynaudio MC 15 should be ideal. (but should need a better source than a compass DAC)

I can't think of a better solution and value for the money.

Thank you for your useful help.

Try the A5's. I believe you get a 30 day trial. If you don't like them, send them back.
I love mine.

Yes, they are on my list but i think the AV123 is better.

Now my ultimate choice are a Poppulse TA2024 amp because they are small, easily tweak-able (by changing caps and power section),can run on batteries and can be used as a power amp (that is useful for later as i plan to use a tube-preamp with two power-amp).

And for speakers : AV123 ELT525 firstly/ Kef IQ10 or IQ30 / AudioEngine P4

The AV123 are the most interesting of the three because they have outstanding value for the price, are beautiful and can be upgraded later (i'm thinking of skying ninja crossovers). But they have bad effiency.

But have effiency issue ... so i believe i will just take the audioengines and forget about all this choice and just enjoy the music !

So i will order one of them pretty soon when i have the money but wanted to know if Neuromantic have new speakers since, he wanted to buy almost the same setup as me and also using the havanna DAC like i am plan to use later.

ps :Sorry for my bad English.

Hello from Bob Schulein,

This is a very interesting topic as it relates to what might be an ideal design for near field loudspeaker listening.

I have been exploring this question my self as I have been producing audio / video content for near field listening and viewing, much like one would experience with a computer with associated loudspeakers.

The interesting aspect of these productions is that the audio portion is captured using binaural recording techniques, followed by  processing with cross-talk cancellation filters to allow recreation of the binaural experience using loudspeakers in a near-field configuration.  I use the word near field in that by listening close to the loudspeakers, their near-filed performance dominates the sonic results.

I have recently posted an audio listening experiment on YouTube that allows listener/viewers to compare 4 binaural audio files with related video by means of both earphone and loudspeaker listening.

This movie can be found at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx7IMz5rH4g

I have obtained the best results thus far with loudspeakers such as Genelec 8030A and the lower priced M-Audio AV40.  In thinking about this process, I would expect loudspeakers with co-axialy mounted MR and HF components to work even better.  Speakers such as the KEF IQ series (IQ10) and the Thiel CS3.7 should do quite well.

I am most interested in any feed back from owners of these or similar loudspeakers as to the results of such comparative testing.

Thanks,

Bob
